The only reason Albany wasn't allowed to go with Velquin and the others was that, being a deserter, it would've surely triggered an attack from the Alternate Divine Power.
Shannon hadn't paid attention to it; sure enough, it was bold enough to follow her. Not only that, but it was also… provoking the Alternate Divine Power.
Was Albany not afraid of its vengeance? Of course, it was scared out of its wits.
But from the moment it received a name from Shannon—no, perhaps from the very first time it chose to help her in the alternate world—it had already betrayed the Alternate Divine Power.
A traitor returning to the alternate world? Of course, it was afraid. But fear alone wasn't enough for it to let Shannon face everything on her own.
Albany had to step up since Benjamin couldn't be there for her. It was another story whether it stood a chance in this fight, but what mattered most was its fighting spirit.
After all, it represented Shannon now.
Perhaps it was Shannon's overwhelming presence, or perhaps the initial burst of golden light that scattered the first heavenly lightning; although the dark clouds continued to press down and lightning flickered ominously within them, no further strikes ever fell.
It felt like a silent standoff… or maybe just a test. After a long while, the oppressive clouds above the city slowly dissipated.
Shannon's group remained completely unharmed. Even so, the weight on their hearts hadn't fully lifted.
Thalia and the others refused to leave, so the group returned to Fennec's apartment.
As soon as they stepped out of the elevator, they saw Eddie, still holding Macaron, rushing over, with "Mike" following close behind.
He had intentionally left earlier, but when he got home and found not only an empty apartment but the presence of a stranger, anxiety surged in his chest.
It didn't help either when he saw the sky outside suddenly darken, so he hurried out to search for them.
"It's probably to activate the alternate world portal," she explained. "In Mike's notes, there's a theory about the overlap and connection between the two worlds. That's exactly what they're after.
"Vlad has spent centuries trying to achieve it using Ghost Mist, but failed. Mike, on the other hand, succeeded. I believe this is the real reason he was taken."
The original array designed to connect the two worlds was, due to its limited power, only a small portal. But with the assistance of the Alternate Divine Power? The theory in Mike's notes might actually come to life.
Lexie listened to Shannon's deductions. She agreed with most of her analysis but still found it hard to believe.
"So, basically, Mike was abducted by the Alternate Divine Power because it required his amazing talent and skills in arrays?"
"Well… You can say so."
