Lexie's voice raised an octave. "You saw the video? Well, we did recover the corpse, but his parents are still having a hard time finding closure."
Recovering a corpse wasn't just about bringing the deceased home for burial. It was also about giving both the dead and the living a final sense of peace.
Felicia and the other three survivors had finally found closure, but not for Gordon and Melissa.
Shannon understood her meaning. She asked, "What else do you need other than a dreammaker talisman?"
"Nothing else," Lexie replied. "Mike will handle the rest."
Barely two minutes after she hung up, a Mystic deliveryman dropped off the dreammaker talisman. She checked the time and gave Mike a small nod.
It was time.
He took out his ghost-gate-forged singing bowl and began calling for the underworld.
Since the authorities hadn't recovered the body in time, Colton's soul missed the golden opportunity to visit his family for one last time.
At that moment, he had already walked the road into the afterlife under the watch of the grim reapers. Suddenly, a familiar ring broke through the silence.
The sound of the singing bowl tugged at something in his soul. Almost instinctively, he turned and followed the sound.
By the time he realized what had happened, he had already passed through the ghost gate and returned to the mortal realm.
"You guys are…" Colton asked, clearly confused by the change of scenery.
"We were hired by your parents to recover your body," Lexie explained before handing him the dreammaker talisman in his hands. "Go on. Say goodbye to them."
Colton's soul shivered faintly as he clutched the talisman. Then, suddenly, his entire being shot off toward a direction guided by the talisman, as if led by a bloodline resonance.
…
It was just past midnight.
