Chapter 17

Freya went stiff. She’d almost let it slip.

“Uh… Lily hooked me up with a bunch of clothes. Just today,” she tried to explain.

“Where are they at?” Liam asked.

“She’s having her assistant ship them over in a few days.”

Liam chuckled under his breath. “Come on, my wife can buy whatever she wants. Why’s she taking Lily’s hand-me-downs?”

“She’s a celebrity, Liam. Her stuff’s all custom, high-end, barely worn. What’s the issue?”

Liam shrugged. “Just saying, if you want some fancy designer stuff, I got you. No need to go through her.”

Freya wasn’t exactly thrilled, but Liam was grinning like he’d won the lottery, tugging her into the mall.

She couldn’t figure out why he was so happy.

When she asked, he just winked. “It’s a secret.”

‘Awesome. We are both hiding something now,’ she thought. This marriage? We are even, in all the worst

ways.’

“Hey… did I hurt you last night?” Liam’s eyes flicked to the bandage on her earlobe, his voice tinged with guilt. “You get that checked out?”

Their fight last night had gotten way too heated. Her ear was bandaged at the hospital, but the gauze must’ve slipped off.

When Freya woke up, it was still bleeding a little, so she stuck a Band-Aid on it.

Freya nodded. “It’s fine. It’ll heal up soon.”

“Why’d you suddenly decide to wear earrings? You’ve never been into jewelry,” Liam asked.

“Saw Natalie rocking some. Thought they looked good, so I gave it a try.”

Liam’s brow furrowed. “I told you, there’s nothing real between me and her. You don’t need to keep obsessing over it.”

“I’m not obsessing,” Freya snapped. “Even if something did happen, I don’t care. I mean, me and Professor Cooper aren’t exactly saints either, right?”

Liam went quiet for a second, then mumbled, “Let’s just drop this, okay?”

Truth was, Freya didn’t give a damn anymore if Liam and Natalie had hooked up.

Chapter 17

In his mind, Freya and Thomas had definitely spent the night together.

So, to “keep things fair,” the odds of Liam not messing around with Natalie were basically zilch.

Plus, Natalie had been in their master bedroom. When Freya showered that morning, she saw the bathtub had been used.

And at the drain? A few strands of long, brown hair. Natalie’s color.

Freya’s hair was long too, but straight-up gold.

As they passed the jewelry section, Natalie’s store manager was there.

Her sales instincts kicked in, and she spotted Freya first, flashing a big, fake smile. “Mrs. Grant! So nice to see you! Natalie’s out sick today, but I’d be happy to help…”

Her words died when she saw Liam.

The

guy who was always swinging by, clearly cozy with Natalie. The “big spender.”

And now, here he was, holding hands with the rich lady.

The manager’s smile turned stiff as a board.

Freya waved back casually. “Thanks, but I’m not shopping for bling today.”

The manager darted her eyes between Freya and Liam, clearly unsure if she should acknowledge him.

Freya glanced at Liam. “You in the mood for some jewelry?”

Liam pulled her along, zooming past the jewelry counters. “Let’s check out clothes.”

Once they were gone, the jewelry section erupted in whispers.

The whole first floor of the mall was lined with ritzy jewelry brands.

Everyone had been jealous of Natalie-she had a loaded boyfriend boosting her sales and a rich bestie who spoiled her.

Natalie was the mall’s golden child, the one everyone envied and secretly hated.
