He’s an Alpha She doesn’t Care novel Chapter 100

Jared

He sat in that car and just waited. He couldn’t see that warrior from where they were parked, but he could see any cars coming and going from the hotel parking, and that was what he was watching for. He sat his phone on the dash, clicked into place to watch that count down as well.

There was no movement even after that hour was up. He was getting ticked off about it. He mind-linked to his father about it and waited. He couldn’t do anything in public, and also had to wait for Alpha Gretta’s instructions.

His father mind-linked back to him after 15 minutes, ‘Jared, Gretta confirms Alpha Nolan, his unit and the warriors with him have all purchased flights out of San Francisco International. But the flight doesn’t leave until just after 4pm. They’re going to have a late checkout.’

“Right,” Jared replied tersely, severing the link with a frustrated flick of his wrist.

He quickly pulled up flight information on his phone, and his heart sank. The flight scheduled for just after 4 PM was indeed the earliest option available. Other flights heading to Wyoming had departed early that morning, leaving him with no viable alternatives. A quick check on Wolf Airlines confirmed his fears—no flights were available today. The next opportunity wouldn’t come until the day after tomorrow, and it seemed that route was hardly in high demand, operating only twice a week.

Glancing at the clock, he muttered to himself, “Their flight isn’t until just after four; they won’t check out until one or two, I’m sure. They only need to be at the airport an hour before boarding.”

Dwane, seated next to him, nodded in agreement. “Standard procedure.”

With a determined sigh, Jared started the car and linked up with the warriors, relaying the crucial information. They were to tail Nolan and his group to the airport, and if they lost sight of him, they were to inform him immediately—especially if it was near the pack’s apartment building. The uncertainty gnawed at him; he had no idea if Nolan would attempt to take her or if he possessed someone with the ability to track her through their blood bond. The possibilities were unsettling.

After dropping Dwane off at the head office, Jared drove toward the pack’s apartment, his resolve hardening. He wouldn’t allow anything to happen to her. As he passed Chris, he offered a curt nod. “No trouble.”

“Nothing, Jared,” Chris replied, his tone casual yet alert.

Arriving at his apartment, Jared punched in the code, but it was met with a stubborn rejection. Frowning, he tried again, but the door remained locked. His gaze dropped to the bottom of the door, where a piece of paper was sticking out, reminiscent of the last time his code had failed. His spirits lifted almost instantly, realizing that Wynta had been here, changing the code and leaving him yet another riddle.

The note read: ‘Sometimes I’m his half-sister, sometimes a witch or healer. I’m also known for being a vixen and a vindictive adversary who wants his seat at the round table. Who am I?’

Leaning against the wall opposite his door, a grin spread across his face as he pondered the riddle. The mention of the round table immediately sparked his thoughts toward the legends of King Arthur. There were countless versions of that tale, but one character stood out above the rest. Jared chuckled softly to himself, realizing the answer was clear. Morgan Le Fay—she was the embodiment of all those traits.

With renewed energy, he punched in “Morgan,” also Wynta’s last name, and the door chimed in affirmation, granting him access to his penthouse. It was evident that Wynta had found a way to occupy herself while he was away, and he couldn’t help but feel a warm affection for her playful spirit.

She wasn’t trying to frustrate him or deny him entry; she was simply indulging in a bit of fun, and honestly, he welcomed it at that moment. He stepped into his bedroom, shedding the maroon suit that had served him well, swapping it for a comfortable pair of jeans and a simple tee-shirt. As he contemplated a new code for her door, he decided to wait until she returned to work, hopefully tomorrow, since she appeared to be on the mend. He’d check on her soon enough.

Settling onto his couch, he let his thoughts drift as he brainstormed a riddle of his own for her. The idea of crafting something clever made him smile, and after sifting through various riddles, he finally found inspiration in a combination of elements that felt just right.

With a sense of purpose, he rose and made his way downstairs to her apartment. After changing her code, he let himself in, a grin playing on his lips. He was about to call her name when he noticed the silence surrounding him. A frown creased his brow as he walked toward her bedroom, discovering her sprawled out on the bed, sound asleep.

She had still been battling a headache that morning when he left, likely still recovering from the migraine that had plagued her the day before. He had never experienced one himself, but his late-night research had revealed that a severe migraine could incapacitate someone for days, even up to a week, depending on its intensity.

Approaching her, he couldn’t help but smile at the sight. Her hand rested on her phone, the screen illuminated with a book she had been reading. As he gently picked it up to close it, she murmured something unintelligible in her sleep. The light from the screen flickered as he touched it, and he carefully placed the phone on the bedside table, brushing a few strands of hair from her face.

“Jared?” she mumbled, her eyes fluttering open, as if she were on the brink of waking fully. He didn’t want that just yet.

“Yes, sweetheart, go back to sleep,” he whispered softly, slipping onto the bed beside her. “I’m just checking on you.” He leaned closer, murmuring into her ear, “You’re safe with me.”

She turned slightly, those hazel-green eyes of hers peering up at him, and a surge of affection washed over him. He longed to kiss her deeply, but he sensed she needed more rest.
