Jared
He decided to just put it all on the line. He knew what he wanted, knew what Creed wanted, and she was sitting right in front of them. He was more than a little shocked when Creed asserted himself completely and spoke directly to Wynta. There was no stopping it, it seemed, and Jared did try, but Creed wanted to talk to her himself. Show her how he felt, and that was all there was to it.
It appeared Creed also didn’t want Wynta to have any doubts about them, and what their intentions were. It was two very different things: to have Jared tell her how he felt and then to have his wolf, Creed, tell her as well. That showed that he and his beast were aligned to the same thoughts, in what they wanted. That being her.
While they had listened to Wynta’s proposed new rules, Jared had been on the verge of acquiescing to her suggestions. However, it was Creed who had chosen to resist. After all, it was Creed who had pursued her at full wolf speed, not Jared. Therefore, it was only fitting that Creed should convey his desires directly to her.
The instant Wynta had made a move, the primal instinct to hunt had surged through his beast, igniting an exhilarating thrill within him. From that moment on, there was no turning back; his beast was set in its resolve. Wynta had never before attempted to escape from them.
In the confines of her cramped apartment, there had been no opportunity for her to flee; space was a luxury she simply didn’t have. Even in her new place, the layout didn’t allow for much freedom. This penthouse, however, offered a semblance of room, yet without her wolf, she would never truly be able to evade him or Creed. Even without their wolfen speed, Jared was confident in his ability to catch her; he relished the thrill of the chase and was undeniably swift, even without Creed’s enhancements.
“Now that I have you right where I want you,” Jared said with a playful smile, brushing his lips against her neck, “what do you think I should do with you?”
“Nothing,” she replied, shaking her head defiantly.
“Hmm, that doesn’t sound quite right,” he murmured, a teasing glint in his eyes. “I can think of plenty of delightful things we could do together that would be enjoyable for both of us.”
“But have my test results come back yet? I may be out of the hospital, but…” she trailed off, concern etching her features.
Jared let out a soft sigh, realizing she was correct; her blood work results were still pending. He loosened his embrace slightly, acknowledging her point. “Fair enough, but you’re feeling better, aren’t you?” he asked, gently turning her to face him, his gaze searching her face for any signs of distress.
“Mm, I suppose, but even I’m not entirely sure what happened,” she admitted, a frown crossing her lips. He noticed her eyes flicker to his ear, a reminder of that moment after she had bitten him—she’d still had blood on her lips when Andy arrived.
“Andy mentioned you were in pain, that your mind was all over the place. What do you remember?” Jared inquired, his curiosity piqued. “We haven’t had a chance to discuss it since you woke up; other matters have taken precedence.” He took her hand, guiding her back to the couch they had occupied earlier, retrieving her coffee and handing it to her.
She raised an eyebrow, skepticism evident in her expression. “So, you’re going to be a good boy, are you?” she asked, her tone hinting that she found it hard to believe.
“I am. You can give me orders later,” he replied as he settled beside her, lifting his own cup of coffee. “I promise to follow your instructions, as long as…” he paused, a playful smile creeping onto his face as he realized the rules could be set aside. “We drop the pretense, and you agree to date me for real.”
Wynta narrowed her eyes at him, taking a sip of her coffee, but remained silent on that topic. Instead, she shifted the conversation, “Have you spoken to Edward yet?”
“About what?” he countered, recalling that he had seen Edward at the gym, unleashing his frustration on a punching bag.
He nodded, and a slight frown returned to her face. Eventually, she shook her head, “Nothing.”
She murmured softly, sipping her coffee as if lost in thought.
“If there’s something bothering you, please share it,” Jared urged gently. “I’d prefer honesty between us, which is why I expressed my feelings to you. I want you to know exactly what I’m looking for when it comes to us.”
She nodded, her expression contemplative, then suddenly a realization struck her. “Tallah is going to freak out!” she exclaimed.
“Dwane has already filled her in,” Jared confirmed. “From what I understand, she initially rejected his call but read his message. Then she called him back immediately, wanting to know about you. She’s now in the loop.”
He watched as Wynta visibly relaxed, then added, “I can invite her over for a few days if you’d like. You won’t be returning to work until next week anyway.”
“Jared, have you seen that Alpha leave the city? Did you manage to catch a glimpse of the woman with him, perhaps even snap a photo?” Wynta asked, her eyes locking onto his with urgency. “Do you think she’s okay? Or do you fear he might have harmed her because of my supposed death?”
Her words tumbled out in a rush, a torrent of questions, and Jared let out a small sigh. “As far as I know, he hasn’t left the city yet. We have a couple of wolves keeping tabs on where they’re staying—not just at the hotel entrance but also in the parking area,” he reassured her, aiming to quell her worries.
