He’s an Alpha She doesn’t Care novel Chapter 29

Edward

He sat staring at Lotti; he was so very disappointed in all that he had heard today where this she–wolf was concerned. She’d always been a real handful, and right from the day she’d come to the pack, had wanted to be ranked up, not that she had been, only accepted as extended kin, when she’d wanted to be bleed to Ernesto himself, even though she was over 18.

That very thing had told Ernesto it wasn’t a good idea, and that was why he’d not actually done it. Now it seemed that was a wise idea. She really did believe she was above her station, so much so that she could blame Wynta for that lashing she’d taken. Had now struck Wynta and wanted to see her gone from this company.

He thought about it as he sat and stared at her, she’d walked right into this room without so much as considering she’d be caught out today. Had even gone and sat herself down right next to Jared himself. Edward now saw that for what it was, it was to show Wynta she and Jared were in a secret relationship. She’d not expected to be exposed here and today.

Jared, it seemed, was of the opinion he really didn’t like Carlotti, it was in the way he’d already started investigating her, weeks ago at that, from the very day he’d come home. He saw something not even Edward had seen. Or maybe it was just that Jared hadn’t really seen how she was, and so her behavior stood out to him whereas everyone else knew just what she was like and ignored it.

That she–wolf had designs on his boy he now understood. She itched not just to be ranked up, but to the highest of high, a position that did not suit her attitude. A Luna should be able to accept all ranks without prejudice, including those of rogue status. A Luna shouldn’t go around trying to manipulate things to their liking and certainly shouldn’t be out to harm anyone.

All the things Carlotti had now done and been caught out in, though he understood there was still another person involved in all of this. Someone that had called Carlotti and told her about the security system being down, likely that someone was also the one that had sent Wynta that text; he would get to the bottom of it.

“Why?” he finally asked her after much silence had passed inside this room.

“I just don’t like her,” Lotti stated. “Even you jump through hoops for that rogue, she is so entitled that she gets away with everything, even talking rudely to other pack members. She is disrespectful to everyone. Why would you want someone like her to be inside the pack.”

“Why indeed?” Dwane drawled. “Alpha, if we’re getting rid of wolves like that, you might want to start with Lotti herself. Just turn her rogue. I believe she’s all of those things she just stated Wynta is.”

“I’m nothing like her, I’m a valuable pack member. She contributes absolutely nothing as a rogue,” Lotti grated out at Dwane.

“Ah, is that so? She works, does her job and is good at it, I hear.” Dwane stated. “That means she contributes to the pack, is no different to any of the human employees and how they contribute.”

“And you contribute exactly what Carlotti?” Jared stated. “Please do tell me what revenue you bring to the pack, what’s your education and the experience you have that benefits the pack?”

Lotti’s eyes turned on Jared in an angry glare, not something she should do. She was just a low–ranking warrior, yet thought she had the right to stare his son and heir down.

“She does nothing. Meredith states she lives off father like a leech and can’t even contain herself to her allowance. She often comes and asks for more money because she’s run out,” Dwane snorted.

Edward watched the two of them as they politely but firmly reminded her she didn’t actually contribute to the pack financially, she actually cost the pack money on a daily basis. He wouldn’t give her a pack card because she wasn’t a contributing pack member. That had shocked her completely. She’d thought she’d get one that had a Beta’s limit on it.

“Enough,” Edward sighed “Carlotti, you disappoint me greatly today. And neither my son nor his Beta are wrong about you,” he told her and her eyes turned on him wide with surprise that he would say that about her. “Don’t look at me like that, it could see you be on the shaming post for disrespecting your Alpha.” He stated and her eyes moved from him to the table in front of her.

“I have my reasons for wanting Wynta to become a pack member, one being that she is very good at her job, the others I’m not required to explain to you at all. I am the Alpha and decided who gets to live within my pack and who doesn’t, not you.” he grated out the last two words to show her he was more than annoyed about her thinking she had the right to get rid of Wynta.

“From all I have now seen and heard in this very room, I don’t know if I want you as a pack member.” He sighed and shook his head. “So, yes, I agree that a full wolfen investigation needs to be held where you’re concerned. That will mean you being Alpha Ordered the truth of everything that you have done, because I can see there is still more and I kind of agree with Jared and Dwane that you are a threat to Wynta.”

“I’m not a threat.” She muttered. “I just don’t like her.”

“Why? What did that she–wolf ever do to you? You don’t run in the same circles she doesn’t live inside the pack, and maybe I’m having so much trouble bringing her in because of wolves like yourself.” He shook his head and stood up.

“Chester, Luther, escort this… she–wolf to the pack cells, cuff her with silver before leaving the building, so she causes you no trouble or tries to run away; something I believe she will do. Isn’t the type I don’t think to take responsibility for her own actions. I saw that today. Confiscate her phone and have her put in the standard issue cell wear.”

“What?” Lotti gasped. “It’s just an investigation, Alpha, I don’t need to be wearing those kinds of clothes.”

“Hmm, but it’s pack protocol when one is under wolfen investigation.” He waved his Gamma and Delta to take her away. “Jared, Dwane, seeing as you’ve done a fine job so far, I’d like the two of you to continue with your investigation here in the office. Find out who helped Lotti. If they are human well, they can’t be dealt with like wolves, so I guess they are being fired for breaching company policy on sharing security risks to those that do not work inside the company.”

“Yes, father.” Was Jared’s simple response.

“Ernesto, you’d best call your Mate and inform her of her child’s doings. So it’s not too much of a shock to her.”

“Yes, I suppose I should. I’ll remove that girl from the extended family register as well, so if, after the investigation, she’s released and remains a pack member, she’ll no longer be allowed to stay in the packhouse, and gets no allowance, will have to live in a single dorm and go and get a job of some sort to support herself.”

“Good,” Edward nodded. “That will show her not even you, her stepfather, will tolerate this kind of behavior.”

“Father, Carlotti’s actual punishment for the attack on Wynta Morgan today?” Jared asked.

“A full lashing and three days on the shaming post. I’ll have that attended to when I get back to the pack, she can sit in the cells and think that’s all she’s going to get, for now.” He nodded “What do you want, son. For the lies she told about you?”

“Hmm, announce her lies to the pack when you shame her, stated what she said for all to hear, and that I have refuted it. Though I don’t think it would be wise to tell the pack, it was Wynta that Lotti stated those words too. Best to leave her out of that in case the one Lotti is connected to is a pack member. That could see retaliation. I think she’s about had enough of that,” Jared sighed. “I would also like to know why she thought it was appropriate to state that we’re in a secret relationship, what is going on inside her mind. If not for the pack laws of ascension, I’d think she was looking to be marked and mated by me, now that Lance is first in line for the seat of Alpha. But…” Jared shook his head.

“It is odd,” Edward agreed. “And son, no one would ever believe those words if they know you.

“Hmm, she’s definitely not my type, I’m not the type to date someone that just wants to freeload off me. I’d much prefer a woman that has a career and has goals for her life.” Jared nodded.

“Perhaps when her punishment is done and the truth is out, it might be best to send the girl off to study full–time, away from the pack.” he murmured thoughtfully. “Though I don’t know if she would agree to that.”

“Well father, you are the Alpha. Lay the law down and just tell her if she wants to stay as a pack member, she has to go and study. Get a full–time job and hold onto it. If not she has the option of becoming a rogue and finding another pack to join.” Jared smiled. “I don’t think she’s going to want to go rogue, she doesn’t like them.”

“Or the smell.” Dwane chuckled.

“A good plan,” Edward nodded. “Now, son, please go and inform Wynta of the outcome and punishment to be dealt out on her behalf. It will be three lashes, one for each hit she thought Wynta deserved. Also, ask her about her knee. If it’s worse, have the pack physio go and see her.”

Jared frowned right at him. “Why me?” he asked.

“Because, son, it’s your job to bring that girl in, so go and play nice until that happens, smile and be polite, offer her assistance.” He smiled at his boy’s annoyance. He also saw Dwane smile as they all got up to leave the room. “He doesn’t need you, Dwane.”

“I’m aware Edward,” Dwane chuckled softly. “I’m going to go and start the reports from today and see if I can find the one Carlotti is involved with. I think they are from the marketing floor, though I doubt they are one of Wynta’s own team.”

“Good. You leave my son to do the job I gave him, and I do want to see if he’s better at it than I am.” He chuckled himself. “On that note, Jared, she’s quite tricky, and she does have a full understanding of our pack laws and protocols. I gave her those books to show her I wanted her to be a member of the pack…” he shook his head. “Kind of think it just made things a bit more difficult to be honest, because I’m certain she read them to learn her way around them.”

“I don’t think she wants to be a pack member father,” Jared shook his head. “Otherwise, she’d be one.”
