He’s an Alpha She doesn’t Care novel Chapter 45

Wynta

Wynta’s eyes moved to the short rap on her office’s door, and she smiled at seeing Edward standing there. Though her eyes moved the man standing next to him, and she actually recognized him from those pictures she’d seen in Jared’s office this morning, it was actually the elite warrior that she had told him she would accept, Kyan.

“Your driver, Wynta,” Edward stated, “Jared informed me that he let you handpick your own from the dozen I had picked for you,” he stated and walked into her office, motioning for Kyan to follow him and asked him to close the door.

“It kind of surprised me a bit. I thought he’d just allocate one after reading all their stats.” He smiled at her as he sat down in the chair across from her. “Seems my son took your thoughts into consideration on the matter. That was nice of him.” Edward smiled. “Also, not like him at all, he’s quite the take–charge kind of boy.”

She didn’t think it was why Jared had done it, he had brought her to his office solely to annoy her, but she let it go, because she doubted very much Edward knew that. As for Jared being the take–charge kind of person, yes, he seemed to be quite dominant she had to admit to herself. “Hmm, trying to be polite, I suppose.” She waved it off, “Though I still don’t think it’s necessary, Edward.”

“You may not, but after what you relayed about the weekend, with an unknown Alpha, and I’m guessing his entire unit, because we rarely travel by ourselves, and that combined with the sudden appearance of an unknown warrior out the front of your building…” he shook his head. “I don’t like it. I’d much rather you come into the pack, but I know you’re not going to.”

“I’m not.” She stated and stood up, and looked at Kyan as he stepped over to her desk. “Hello.

She greeted him, offering her hand to him.

“Morning ma’am.” He nodded and took her hand in a brief but firm shake, “I believe I’ll be your driver for coming and going to the office.”

“And for all her physio appointments as well,” Edward stated, “I didn’t much like your disappearing act last weekend, Wynta.” Edward told her simply, “And I feel it could have gotten you into some trouble, or maybe even now, brought trouble here for you.” He huffed a little and shook his head “Why do you have the need to vanish at all?” he asked.

She smirked a little now herself as she sat back down, “I didn’t vanish, Edward. I simply had a nice weekend at the beach, something I often do; take myself away for the weekends. You just didn’t know until now is all. I didn’t hide it, I booked it online, booked a car to drive me to and from, used my real name. I wouldn’t define that as vanishing. If I was going to vanish, Edward, I’d pay cash for everything and use public transportation, get on a bus or train where I don’t have to hand over my details. So no one could track me down,” she commented, telling him she knew exactly how to get around them tracking her if she really wanted to disappear.

“Done that before, haven’t you,” he nodded. “When you left your home pack, I’m guessing?”

“Hmm,” she shrugged. “No one was looking for me, Edward, no one cared that I left. I assure you of that,” she told him how she felt about it.

“I’m betting your Mate would have,” Edward sighed and shook his head as if he didn’t believe her. “You know the one that rejected you, or maybe you rejected.”

“He was gone away the day after it happened, uncaring of our rejection.” She told him, she’d known her words in his office this morning, had seen him understand she’d been rejected, Jared as well she was willing to bet. When she’d answered that question about would she know if she had a Mate on a full moon or not. She’d answered it without much thought, but it had told both him and Jared that she’d had a mate once, and they were in fact rejected because both of them knew she had no marking scar.

“Where did he go?” Edward pushed a little.

“How would I know.” She shrugged it off. “I was in the pack hospital at the time.” She lifted her right wrist up, “Dealing with this.”

She saw him frown and nod slowly, knowing it would make him drop the subject, which he did. He wasn’t going to ask her exactly what happened. He thought it was going to be something very painful for her to talk about, like she’d been kidn*pped and brutalized, and she let him drop it, because it stopped his questions.

His eyes moved from her wrist back to her eyes. “That is not why you went away for the weekend.” He sighed knowingly.

“Hmm, after everything I’ve been through in the past month, I just needed to get away and really relax, Edward. You can’t blame me for wanting that, can you? Not after the injuries I sustained. Surely anyone would want a nice break and a trip to the beach, a nice hotel room, with a glass of wine and a spa bath. What more can a girl want!”

“Hmm, I could think of at least one thing all she–wolves want. That you skipped out on.” he muttered.

She smiled at him and leaned back in her chair, “Technically, I didn’t skip that because I did come across other wolves, an Alpha and his unit on the day of the full moon.”

“I think that Alpha is now looking for you. You mentioned you’d seen him before, a long time ago.”

“Hmm, it was.” She nodded. “He was of no threat to me back then, nor was he now, just surprised to see me I think.”

“Were you a rogue the last time you saw him?” Edward asked now.

She frowned at him. “Why does that matter?” she asked in return.

“I’m simply curious.” Edwards shrugged.

But she knew he wasn’t just curious, the man never did things for no reason, his questions were always thought out, even if they seemed simple. He was digging, trying to find out not only if that Alpha was from her home pack, but if he was also her rejected Mate, she wasn’t so dumb.

She just nodded slowly. “Curiosity killed the cat, you know.”

Edward smiled. “I’m a wolf, not a cat.” Then he leaned forward on her desk and looked right at her. His tone serious now, “In all seriousness, Wynta, so I know what needs to be done. Do you think that Alpha is now looking for you? You said you knew him, so anything is possible.”

She stared right at him. “I guess it is possible,” she finally answered. “Though I checked, he’s only an heir, not an Alpha to a pack.”

She could see his brain ticking now as he sat all the way up. “So you do actually know him and what pack he comes from.”

“I do, like I said I’ve seen him before.” She’d not lied about that.

“So, he’s from your home pack then. Your former Alpha’s son.” He nodded slowly.

“I didn’t say that,” she shook her head.

“You don’t have to; you’ve got no initiation scars. So, you’ve only ever been attached to one pack in your life,” Edward stated.

He was not so dumb, he had been making deductions about her for the past five years, and he was starting to piece things together, it seemed. “It makes no difference, Edward. I left that pack, so why would I go back?” she asked him.

“That is the question now, isn’t it. What would see you go back?…” he murmured, and she could once again see his brain ticking. “I could think of one reason and Alpha’s heir to your home pack would take an interest in you after all this time. Enough interest to have their tech department check that car company, and find the details of you,” he sighed.

“She’s his rejected Mate,” Kyan murmured.

Wynta turned her eyes on the man who snapped his mouth shut and stated a quick apology. But Edward was also looking at him as well. It seems the man was following along with Edwards‘ thoughts but didn’t have the presence of mind to hold his tongue.

Edward turned his eyes right back to her. “That is exactly what I was thinking.” He nodded. “If that is the case, he could well have regrets, and be looking to reclaim you, Wynta.”

She shook her head ‘no‘ at him, “It’s not that,” she stated. “More like I got something on him, and he wants to make sure I don’t tell anyone.” She regretted those words the moment they were out of her mouth, she’d been trying to deflect his attention from her having and ex Alpha Mate, and only now drew his attention to a full threat, and she knew it just by the look on his face.

“Then you will likely need more than a driver. If he knows where you live, Wynta. He could be looking to come in and silence you. As a rogue, you have no one to turn to. He’ll understand that.” Edward was looking right at her a concerned frown on his face.

“That warrior also saw Jared, Edward. So I think it will be reported back that I’ve got an affiliation even though there is no actual pack attachment.”

“I don’t like it,” he muttered and turned to Kyan, I want all your senses on and your window down a c***k. If you so much as smell anything that is not human, regardless of what it is, I want you to inform Jared and his unit. They’ll all be in mind–linking range from here in the office or in their apartments, even if you’re at Wynta’s.”

“Yes, Alpha.” Kyan nodded.

“I’ll go and discuss this with Jared and his unit,” Edward told her, and then stepped away. “Oh. He stopped and pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. “The pack handyman replaced the lock on your apartment today, it’s now coded like all inside the pack,” he put the paper on the desk and pushed it at her “That’s the code to your door.” He stated and was gone from her office, Kyan trailing him.

She picked up the paper as she frowned about Edward just changing her locks of his own accord. It was five digits long. She’d not approved that, it seems Edward really did have concerns about that warrior outside her apartment. He was putting into place things around her as though she was a pack member. She knew it was what he wanted, but was it really necessary?

She read the pass code. It meant nothing to her, just five random numbers, 52733, but she put that piece of paper in her handbag for when she got home.
