Jared
He was stretched out on his couch and settled for the evening. He’d gotten a phone call from Kyan about he’d dropped Wynta off and he’d seen her enter her apartment. He’d also relayed his conversation with her. That he thought she didn’t think she needed a driver at all, but even Kyan thought it was wise.
Jared hadn’t given her all those photos for no reason today; those warriors were the pack’s retrieval team and anyone of them would do the job of protecting her. He’d just thought that with how very stubborn she was, it was actually best to let her choose her own guard, or she might just not accept one.
He’d also had a meeting with his father and Kyan after Edward had taken Kyan down to introduce her to him. Heard about the follow–up conversation they’d had in Wynta’s office, and now he was just sitting in his apartment, quietly thinking about it. Letting his brain tick on the information that was being gathered about her, he knew this was actually the first time his father had gotten anything about her past and was piecing it all together.
He now knew she had a previous mate, and he was likely from her home pack. She’d come across an Alpha and his unit on the weekend, and they’d been surprised she’d been a rogue. That to Jared, meant she knew them, and they knew what pack she came from.
But she’d also stated she was a long way from her home pack, that it had been, the words those wolves had stated, that had made her realize, they were not just wolves… But who they actually were. She more than knew them, he now realized as he thought about it.
That Alpha and his unit, it dawned on him, were in fact from her home pack. She’d stated they were no threat to her and had just looked surprised to see her, but also that they’d still been there the next day to see her leave.
His brain was ticking now, and he let it… ‘Alpha or one in his unit is her rejected Mate.‘ Creed told him.
‘Agreed, Jared nodded after only a moment of deliberation on those words himself, ‘I’d be willing to bet those words she heard, Do you smell that? But then there was the slightest pause after that, she left something out.‘
‘A name, hers or his.’ Creed followed along with his thoughts.
‘Yes, I bet it was his, and now that I’m really thinking about it, Creed, it’s the Alpha, and likely it was his Beta that said those words. They are actually looking for her, recognized her scent along with that rogue scent as well. They all recall what she smells like.‘
‘Dumbass reject her, now want her back.‘ Creed snorted. ‘Dumb wolf should just accept Mate when given.’
‘She doesn’t want that though, Jared mused as he thought more about what she’d told them. ‘Otherwise, why hole up and not just talk to him.‘ Jared murmured ‘She knows her home pack scent.‘ His finger was tapping on his glass now as he thought about that very thing.
‘She ask you what that wolf scent of. You told her.‘ Creed huffed. ‘She knows it’s him hunting her.‘
‘Indeed.‘ Jared nodded.
Yet the stubborn woman wouldn’t come in, even after what she told his father in her office, that she could have something on him, that would see him not wanting her to tell anyone. He swallowed the last of his drink as he thought about that, all the possible things that would see her know something about an Alpha Heir, that he wouldn’t want others to know. Jared got up to make another drink, adding ice to this once, and his eyes fell on the mating bond band on his wrist.
Creed snorted suddenly as he followed Jared’s own thought process, ‘that Alpha has to have a Mate to take the seat, yet he reject her.’
‘Not just a Mate, Creed. A Goddess–Gifted like we do, Jared nodded as he looked at that moonstone band, ‘but he rejected her… without anyone knowing what she was to him, because she was wolf–less.’ Jared nodded ‘That man is 32 or older even, and he wants the seat of Alpha but can’t take over, because he’s never been granted a second chance Mate.‘ he nodded slowly.
‘Stupid to reject Mate in first place.‘ Creed agreed with him.
‘Didn’t know what he had. Jared agreed with his beast. She may be wolf–less, but she was beautiful, intelligent and hardworking, she didn’t get dragged into drama around her, wasn’t looking to be mated and ranked up either. Stubborn to the hilt, but that was the rogue mentality, and it was actually to be expected from her at this point. He’d seen the fun side of her in more ways than one now. A slight smile touched his face at the thought of her playing with him in his office.
‘Make for good Luna.‘ Creed told him.
‘Likely so.‘ Jared nodded. ‘Not that she wants that, got an aversion to pack life…‘ he sighed now ‘She should have been a Luna, and knows it. That’s why she doesn’t want to be in a pack; is so difficult to bring in.’
‘Why she walk away when you put her out of car. Luna Ceremony going on inside.’ Creed stated.
‘Something she wouldn’t want to attend, Jared agreed ‘Due to her knowing she should have gotten one, and I gave her the perfect excuse to walk away from it, and she jumped at it.‘ He sighed now as he walked out to his balcony. She was going to be more than difficult to bring in. He was going to need a proper reason, something that would see her actually need his help for real. All games aside.
He was still out there mulling it over when his phone chimed, and it was Wynta. A smile touched his lips as he read her message. Ah, she’d figured out the code was his name. He didn’t think it would take her long, though he’d had his father give her that code, so she would think it was Edward that had changed her door lock.
He smiled and sank down in the chair out there, and replied to her. He was amused by the way she worded things and refused to agree to him coming over. Pity he’d like to punish her for the way she’d played with him in his office today, but he’d leave it for the night. She now knew he had the code to her apartment, and that was going to bug her all night long.
Make her wonder, toss and turn during the night, about if he was going to turn up and just seduce her, anytime he felt like it. That amused him completely, it was as good as being there and punishing her. Because she would be actively thinking about what he’d do to her when she woke up and found him crawling into her bed, a mouth or hand teasing her until she nearly came.
Though something else occurred to him as he sat out there, she’d not mentioned her new wardrobe at all. Had she not opened it and seen her suits were gone, and he’d replaced them with all new ones? That was a curiosity.
‘She sleep naked.‘ Creed chortled, ‘Why no panties the other night?‘
Jared chuckled himself now at his own beast’s words, ‘Stop watching me when I’m with her, you pervert.’
‘Why? She need punishing, I think so, I unconscious too. Interesting to watch her, it was. She like you‘
Jared smirked and relaxed further in his chair ‘She liked me tasting her and touching her, that was for sure. He agreed ‘Even in my office she didn’t verbalize a no.‘ And she’d not, just been shocked by his sudden brazenness, he thought, he probably could have taken it much further. But he’d just been teasing her like she had been him.
His Beta strolled into his apartment calling out his name and he called back, “On the balcony. “Finally, dinner was here, and he was hungry.
They all sat out there and ate together, chatting about the usual wolfen things, until Creed lifted his head and made him stand up, and breathe in. His whole unit was suddenly quiet and alert. There it was the scent of daffodils, faint on the breeze but something his own wolf was alert for.
He walked all the way to the balcony railing and looked about, it wasn’t just one wolf either. We got an Alpha and his unit just coming into town, boys.” He murmured after a minute, and his entire unit were up and standing there with him.
“Wynta could be in trouble,” Andy huffed. “I’ll go over.”
“No,” Jared murmured. “Let’s see what he does, and one of Kyan’s team is there, scent masked. Father insisted on it. We just never told her,” he stated and connected himself to Jenson, I got the scent of an Alpha and his unit, with that pack scent from last night on it.‘
‘Where are you?‘ came right back.
‘My apartment.‘
There was quiet for several minutes before a response came back, ‘I get nothing here, likely coming in from the other direction, where there is accommodation. You’re closer to that than I am, and can scent further.‘
That he could, he turned to his unit. “Do you smell it or is it just me? Jenson is looking for clarification, he hasn’t picked it up.”
“I got it.” Dwane state.
“I can’t.” Andy and Emerson shook their head’s no.
“So, they’re just arriving,” he mused and connected to Jenson ‘Just Dwane and I, I’d be guessing they’ll do a drive by where it’s reported she lives. Keep your eyes open.‘
‘On it, Jared sighed, there was nothing to do at this point. She’d said there was no animosity, or active aggression from this Alpha and his unit. So all he could do, being that they weren’t allied or enemies, was sit and wait to see what hand this Alpha and his unit were going to play.
“Jared?” Dwane asked him.
“We do nothing, Wynta stated the Alpha she saw was of no threat to her, she’s seen him before. Let’s just see what he actually wants. Could be simple curiosity.”
“Do you really think that?” Andy asked him.
“No, but we don’t know them, or where they come from, what their motive truly is or what they want with Wynta. He will be aware an Alpha was trailing her already, and would have been given my description, I imagine, likely why it took so long to get here. I’m an unknown to them.”
“They checked into the packs in the area before coming,” Dwane murmured.
“Likely so,” Jared nodded. “Will, if they’ve done their due diligence, now know the head office isn’t that far from her apartment, that I, an Alpha wolf, likely either has eyes on her, or she is hired by us. They need to be careful of themselves. This is not their turf but considered to be father’s, not mine.”
“I don’t think they’ll be looking for trouble,” Emerson stated. “It’s unlikely, it’s more than him and his unit, maybe just one or two warriors with him, depending on the reason they’re out here.”
“They weren’t here,” Jared stated, “They were down in Monterey, had business there.”
