Edward
He’d spent all yesterday afternoon sorting out the details of what needed to go to the Wolfen Council, he’d sat and put together the files of all the interactions with Nolan of the Blue Rydge Pack, including what Jenson’s team had heard go between Wynta and Yale. Right down to the words he himself had heard yesterday.
He’d even managed to get Mason’s boys to write out statements about what they saw and email them to him so he could add those to the information. It was actually quite a lot to get through. Wynta herself had summed up what happened inside that pack, what she’d done to prove it was coercion and the rejection. All things that correlated with Jared’s report of her own words to him just last Friday.
He’d emailed it off to the Alpha Larissa, who ran the Alpha College and Council in Washington State. This Council was the nearest to his own pack, and it was where all his boys had received their training. While it wasn’t the closest to the Blue Ridge Pack, Edward was confident that Larissa would communicate with the Alphas in New Mexico or North Dakota regarding the situation.
The Blue Ridge Pack lay almost equidistant between those two Councils, and it was only a matter of time before they would investigate Nolan’s past and the deceit woven into the fabric of his claims. The so-called mating alliance involving a rogue she-wolf, who had long since distanced herself from that pack, was merely a façade. She had been a member over a decade ago, but both she and Nolan had chosen to reject it.
They had no legitimate claim over her, and given her status as an orphan, their ties to her father were tenuous at best. Without any evidence of a connection between Wynta and her alleged father, especially one that could trigger a kin bond, their assertions were baseless.
At 32 years old, Wynta was a free spirit, untethered to any pack. Edward was resolute in his belief that they had no right to coerce her into a mating alliance or to force her back to a mate she had long since rejected. He had explained that Wynta had been a dedicated employee at his company for five years, content with her life as a wolf-less rogue. He had extended invitations for her to join his pack on multiple occasions, but she had always declined, citing her distrust of pack life stemming from her traumatic experiences within the Blue Ridge Pack.
He had also mentioned that Wynta and his eldest son were developing a relationship. Although their time together had been brief, they had yet to encounter each other during a full moon. Edward harbored hopes for their future, but the specter of Alpha Nolan loomed large, and he feared the possibility of abduction and coercion. The tension from their argument had echoed in the air, and Edward was all too aware of the stakes involved.
“Please, help us resolve this situation,” he had implored the Council, urging them to look into the Blue Ridge Pack and uncover the truth behind Nolan’s actions. Until then, he vowed to protect Wynta, whether that meant initiating her into his pack or ensuring Nolan faced consequences for his abhorrent behavior—both from fourteen years ago and in the present.
He had hoped for a response last night, but luck had not been on his side. As he settled into his desk now, there was still no message from Alpha Larissa, aside from the standard automated reply confirming receipt of his email. He understood the protocol; it was a way to reassure those seeking assistance that their requests were acknowledged, but it offered little comfort.
By the time Larissa had likely finished reading his email, it would have been late. Perhaps she was contemplating her next steps, or maybe she had forwarded his concerns to another Council for further action. All he could do was wait, his mind racing with possibilities about what might transpire. Would there be an investigation into Nolan’s actions? Would they uncover the reasons behind his sudden reappearance and his attempts to claim Wynta against her will?
In the past, rogues had held little power in the wolfen hierarchy, but times had changed. The number of rogues had grown, and as long as they adhered to the laws, they were afforded respect by the Council. What Wynta was unaware of was that despite her rogue status, he had been paying her wolfen tax, ensuring she was recognized as law-abiding. This was all part of the documentation he had submitted, detailing the taxes she had paid through him to affirm her status as a good wolf. He felt a swell of gratitude for having taken that step on her behalf, even if she remained oblivious to his efforts.
The morning stretched on, weighed down by his worries for Wynta. He knew that Alpha Nolan was still lurking nearby, and a team was discreetly monitoring him, fully aware of the potential threat he posed. They were prepared to act if he made another move toward Wynta.
Finally, his phone rang, breaking the tension. It was Alpha Gretta from New Mexico. “Alpha Edward, this is Alpha Gretta. I’ve been forwarded all your documents. I’ve taken charge of addressing the situation regarding Alpha Nolan and his attempted abduction of your rogue she-wolf, Wynta Morgan.”
“Thank you for your prompt response, Alpha Gretta. This incident occurred just yesterday, right outside my head office,” Edward replied, his voice steady but tinged with urgency.
“I’m aware. He was remarkably brazen, acting in broad daylight. I’ve already reached out to Blue Ridge’s Alpha, demanding the return of their son to their pack within twenty-four hours, pending a thorough investigation into the matter. I summarized the events for him, and I received confirmation that he opened my email just thirty minutes ago. I trust you’re keeping an eye on that boy to ensure Ms. Morgan’s safety?”
“Yes, I am,” Edward affirmed, his heart racing with a mix of anxiety and hope.
“Then we should see some movement from him shortly. If he hasn’t departed the city by car or plane within the next hour, I’d like to be informed. He should have been reprimanded and sent back home by now.”
“I haven’t heard anything yet… What about Wynta?”
“I’ve reviewed everything and understand your concerns regarding her identity and the implications of this situation. I’ve requested Alpha Peter to send me Wynta’s complete file, including her records of arrival and departure from the pack. If anyone is claiming to be her father within that pack, I need to see proof of their relationship forwarded to me. I will be arriving at their pack alongside Alpha Patrick in twenty-four hours, and if their boy isn’t there before the Council arrives, a seer will investigate him. I will also send a seer to delve into Wynta Morgan’s mind, as she has indicated she would comply with an official investigation if forced to return.”
“I’ve also inquired whether they have signed any agreements for a mating alliance with their son. If so, I expect a thorough explanation of how that can even be considered, especially given that one cannot form such an alliance with a rogue she-wolf who left his pack fourteen years ago, according to her statements. I’m still awaiting a response.”
