Meadow’s POV:
A gasp tore from my throat–not out of fear, but shock. That was something neither of us expected what happen as Alaric walked me through the doors of his office.
But I wasn’t scared. Not at all. That was a hard punch, but Alaric’s head only jerked to the side because he was caught off guard.
“I quit, motherfucker!” Tyler yelled angrily, swinging his arm back again for another punch. “You don’t fucking own me!”
“Tyler, no-” I started, trying to warn him before he did something he was going to regret
Because trust me–he was definitely going to regret hitting Alaric. He couldn’t feel. And as far as I knew, Tyler only caressed his face.
He paid me no heed. However, before he could deliver another punch, Alaric caught Tyler’s wrist in one hand and then, releasing my hand from the other, he delivered a blow to his nose–a blow so loud and impactful that I heard the sound of his bones cracking.
“Fuck!” Tyler groaned as the force of Alaric’s blow pushed him backward.
“You quit, huh?” Alaric murmured casually. He turned to face me, shrugging his jacket off his shoulder, and I watched, tongue–tied, as he handed it to me with a smirk on his face. “Did he get me, baby?”
I chewed on my bottom lip, hating that I was so attracted to him being like this, but still loving it all the same No,” I muttered as my eyes dropped to his jaw. There was no bruise or bump on his skin.
Huh.
I suppose Tyler’s punch wasn’t so hard after all.
“Good,” he said in a smooth, buttery tone. “I hope you know I have to punish him now, Meadow.” Alaric’s eyes flashed, his jaw clenching. This wasn’t him asking permission. This was him just telling me what he was going to do.
“I don’t care,” I answered genuinely, my gaze shifting to Tyler who was still clutching his nose. “He’s had it coming for a long time.”
Tyler’s bloody nostrils flared as he tried to lunge for me. “You bitch-”
Alaric punched Tyler before he could take a step further.
“People like you never fucking learn,” Alaric said through his teeth. “Threatening my wife right in front of me? You’re asking for a fucking death sentence.” Tyler fell to the floor this time.
He grunted, his eyes widening as he looked at me, fear flashing in them.
There it was.
The fear.
“Get up,” Alaric said calmly.
Tyler was bleeding out of his nostrils, his eyes pleading with me. I scoffed. He only looked at me like that whenever he wanted something from me.
He had looked at me when we were outside in the hallway, and now he was looking at me like that again. He thought he could get through to me, make me tell Alaric to stop.
Because he just realized just the amount of trouble he was in now.
“Get. Up. Cross,” Alaric said louder this time. When Tyler didn’t move, Alaric reached for the collar of his shirt, yanking him off the floor. “When I tell you to get up, you fucking get up.”
Alaric punched him again and his head jerked hard to the side. My stomach turned. I wasn’t scared of Alaric at all, but I just…
But there was nothing he could do to me.
Nothing
“Oh, Tyler…” I cooed, clicking my tongue. “How insecure and jealous do you have to be to think that I would get married to someone all because I want revenge on you?” I paused. “Do you really think you hold that kind of importance in my life? That I would what? Get on my knees in front of a powerful man and beg him to get revenge for me? I mean, I do get on my knees to suck his dick, but come on, Tyler! You can’t be that dense, can you?”
Alaric let out a silent laughter. It was barely there, but I heard it.
I didn’t marry Alaric for revenge, I married him because I wanted to lose my virginity–because I had nothing else to lose. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into by marrying him, but right now, I didn’t fucking regret it.
“Fuck… you,” he seethed.
I could feel Alaric tense above me, but he didn’t move.
He was letting me take the stage.
“I agree,” I whispered. “Although, I suppose, there’s nothing else to do but agree. I’ll take the insults, Tyler, but only because what you’re getting in return is going to be much worse.” I leaned in, stroking his hair. “And all I’m going to do is sit back and enjoy the show. I mean, there are perks to being married to the most powerful man in the city, aren’t there?”
Tyler growled, and he tried to get up but Alaric’s shoe pushed against his chest. I raised my head to gaze at him, feeling heat creep up my neck from the pride I saw swirling in his eyes.
Clearing my throat, I said: “Wanna tell him what exactly it is you plan to do to him, daddy?” I paused, biting my lip. “If you haven’t done them already, that is.”
