Elijah stood frozen, overwhelmed by shock and disbelief as he watched Kendall in her wedding gown standing beside another man, Marcel. The sight of Kendall’s wedding was a crushing blow, and his body trembled with cold and numbness. The joyous atmosphere around him, including Haley’s radiant happiness, only deepened his inner turmoil.
As the wedding vows began, Elijah suddenly interrupted, declaring that Kendall did not want to marry Marcel. His outburst stunned the crowd, and Haley urgently tried to stop him, reminding him to stay calm and enjoy the reception. Ignoring her, Elijah rushed to Kendall, grabbing her hand and pleading with her not to marry Marcel, confessing his long-held feelings and insisting that she belonged to him.
Kendall reacted with shock and coldness, pulling away and firmly telling Elijah that it was too late, that their relationship was over. Despite her rejection, Elijah clung to her, begging her not to go through with the wedding and expressing his regret and pain. Kendall’s distant and resolute demeanor showed that she no longer saw him as someone close.
Marcel intervened, grabbing Elijah’s wrist and confronting him with icy authority, questioning his audacity to disrupt the wedding. Elijah defiantly insisted that Kendall did not love Marcel, but Marcel scoffed and asked Kendall directly about her feelings. Kendall’s quiet and certain declaration of love for Marcel left Elijah facing the harsh reality of the situation and Marcel’s mocking confidence.
Chapter 18
Elijah stood frozen, as if a sudden bolt of lightning had struck him dead center. His body felt numb, stiff as a board, while a chilling wave swept over him like a bucket of ice water had been dumped on his head. He shivered uncontrollably, the cold seeping deep into his bones.
His eyes were fixed on the stage where Kendall stood, radiant in a pristine white wedding gown, her smile bright as she stood beside another man. The scene was painfully vivid. Right next to them, Haley, dressed in a soft pastel bridesmaid’s dress, glowed with joy, her face lit up as though she was witnessing the most perfect moment in the world.
Every detail around him was painfully clear—this was Kendall’s wedding. The realization hit him like a hammer, sending his mind into a fog of disbelief. It felt as if the ground beneath him was crumbling, the world spinning out of control.
The quiet was shattered only when the emcee’s voice cut through the tension, pulling Elijah back to the harsh reality before him.
“Miss Kendall, will you take Mr. Marcel to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and honor him in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, forevermore?”
Kendall lifted her eyes slowly, her gaze warm and steady as it met Marcel’s. A gentle smile curved her lips, soft and sincere. Just as she was about to respond, Elijah’s voice broke through the moment, hoarse and desperate.
“No, she doesn’t want to.”
A sharp gasp rippled through the crowd. All eyes swung toward Elijah, stunned by his sudden intrusion. Haley’s eyes widened in alarm as she grabbed his arm, whispering fiercely, “Elijah, what are you doing? This is Kendall’s wedding. I told you to stay put and enjoy the reception, not storm the stage and make a scene. Are you out of your mind?”
But Elijah seemed deaf to her words. With a forceful jerk, he freed his arm and hurried toward Kendall, gripping her hand tightly in his own. “Kendall, I was wrong. I don’t care about Tiffany anymore. I’ve liked you for so long. Please don’t marry him. I can’t let this happen. You told me you belong only to me. You can’t do this—don’t do this to me.”
