Chapter 19

Elijah was forcefully escorted out of the wedding hall by security, the heavy door slamming shut behind him with a final, resounding thud. The lively sounds of celebration were abruptly cut off, but even from outside, he could still catch every word spoken inside—the officiant’s voice announcing the exchange of rings, the bursts of laughter from guests, and the tender yet agonizing sound of a kiss sealing a promise.

His chest tightened painfully, as though an invisible hand was squeezing his heart relentlessly. The ache was nearly unbearable. Desperately, he pounded on the door, his voice raw and strained as he shouted, “Open up! Please! Kendall, don’t marry him. I’m begging you—please don’t do this.”

But on the other side, the crowd remained indifferent to his desperate cries, or perhaps they simply chose to ignore him. The wedding continued unabated, the laughter and cheers cutting through him like sharp blades.

Leaning his forehead against the cold, unyielding door, tears streamed down Elijah’s face without restraint. He had never imagined he’d be reduced to this—humbling himself so completely just to plead for forgiveness.

Before arriving here, his mind had raced with countless plans to win her back. He had considered every possibility, even the thought of kneeling before her, willing to do anything to make her see him again.

Now, hearing her vow herself to another man, the painful truth settled in: he no longer had the right to fight for her heart.

“Kendall, please don’t do this. I understand my mistakes now—truly. Don’t marry him. Please!” His voice faltered, dwindling to a whisper, almost a sob.

But inside, no one acknowledged him. To them, he was just a stranger, irrelevant and unheard.

Regret gnawed at him—regret for waking up to his feelings too late, for not realizing what he had sooner, for failing to cherish her when he had the chance.

But now, it was far too late.

Minutes ticked by agonizingly until finally, the door creaked open. Haley stepped out, her expression icy and unreadable. Without hesitation, she strode toward Elijah and delivered a sharp slap across his cheek. Her voice was thick with anger and disappointment as she demanded, “Elijah, what’s going on between you and Kendall? Tell me everything. Didn’t you like Tiffany? How could you be with Kendall?”

Elijah turned his face away, the sting of the slap barely registering as he absorbed her words.

He met her gaze with eyes full of pain and remorse. “Haley, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have used Kendall as a way to get over Tiffany. I don’t even like Tiffany anymore. I’ve been in love with Kendall for a long time. Please, help me win her back. Without her, I don’t know how to live.”

“Used her as a practice tool?” Haley’s voice trembled with fury as she pointed accusingly. “You have the nerve to ask for my help? Kendall is my best friend. You think you can toy with her feelings like that? How dare you!”

Elijah seemed to block out her scolding, his desperation shining through as he pleaded, “Please, help me. She wouldn’t move on so quickly. She’s just angry with me. Talk to her for me, please?”
