“But Harold still slipped right past him, didn’t he?” Daven shot back, unwilling to yield.

“It’s better we don’t turn this into an argument, Mr. Daven,” Arsen cut in, sensing the sudden rise of tension between the two men. “I’m sure Mr. Cale has done everything in his power. If anything, he knows Harold’s patterns better than anyone.”

“You’re right.” Daven forced his voice steady. “Call Thomas. Beyond making him pay for what he’s done, we can’t allow Harold to walk away from the legal charges hanging over his head.”

“Yes, Mr. Daven,” Arsen answered quickly.

“I’ve already prepared a mountain of documents to file charges against him, Daven,” Chase added. “Your legal team and mine should exchange information. This time, Harold won’t slip through the cracks of the law so easily.”

A faint smile tugged at Daven’s lips. “Yes. We’ll make sure Harold doesn’t buy his way out of this.”

The tension between them began to ease, perhaps because at the center of it all was Josh.

“Any updates from Josh’s doctors?” Daven asked, turning to Arsen.

“Nothing yet, Mr. Daven. But we should wait there. In case anything urgent comes up. I’m also worried Miss Althea is becoming increasingly anxious.”

“Your assistant is right,” Chase cut in, snatching the blazer draped over the back of the sofa. “I’ll keep you updated on Josh’s condition if there are any developments.”

“No.” Daven rose as well, his voice steady, unyielding. “I need to know what’s happening to Josh, too. No matter what… he’s still my son.”
