HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 284

A week later.

“Slowly, Josh. Don’t push your leg too hard.” Althea steadied her son’s small shoulders as he sat in a bright blue wheelchair.

Josh winced, then offered her a faint smile. “Mom, I’m fine. It’s just a broken leg, right? The doctor said I’ll be able to walk again. He also said everything’s already been fixed properly.”

Standing beside them, Chase leaned closer. “That’s true, but it’ll take time—and therapy—before you can walk normally again. No rushing it. You remember what the doctor said, don’t you?”

Josh gave a reluctant nod, his eyes drifting to his leg wrapped in a stark white cast that reached his knee. “I just can’t wait to walk on my own again, Daddy.”

Chase’s expression softened at the boy’s frustration. “Patience, champ. Okay?”

It had been a week since Josh was declared out of danger after the accident that nearly cost him his life. His leg might be broken, and a long cut still marked his head, not to mention the bruises left by the crash, but he had survived. When he finally opened his eyes in the ICU, there had been no alarming complications. Against all odds, he was recovering well.

His post-surgery progress had been smooth, too—except for the broken leg, which demanded therapy if he wanted to run and play again like before.

“All right… I’ll be patient.” Josh’s smile wavered but held. “It’s just… I miss Leo and Nyu.”

Chase tapped a finger lightly against his forehead, amused. “All right then. I’ll ask Granddad to bring them for you.”

“Really?” Josh’s gloomy expression lifted in an instant, his face brightening with excitement.

“Yes. I’m sure Granddad won’t mind.”

“Is Granddad coming back soon? I wasn’t done playing with him last time.”

Three days earlier, Daniel and Riana had visited. They arrived before Josh regained consciousness after surgery but hadn’t been able to stay long. Urgent matters had forced Daniel back to SunCity, while Riana remained behind to support Althea. During that brief visit, Daniel had sat by Josh’s bed, teaching him how to play an online game popular with kids his age.

“Of course he’ll come again.” Chase chuckled. “Didn’t he tell you? He’s staying nearby for now, so he can be with you until you’re fully recovered.”

Josh nodded eagerly.

“That’s why you can’t give up. Keep listening to the doctors, do your therapy, and you’ll get there.”
