“Her name is Aunt Felicia. And… Aunt Kalina.”
Althea’s brows knit together. “Kalina… came too?”
Daven gave a small, almost sheepish smile before answering. “She wanted to see Josh as well. I think… she’s starting to understand the situation.”
Though hesitation lingered in her chest, Althea finally nodded.
Relief flickered across Daven’s features, and he quickly asked Arsen to let his mother and sister into the room.
“Grandma!” Josh’s voice rang out the moment Kate appeared in the doorway. He stretched out his arms, eager for her embrace.
There was nothing in the world that could have touched Kate more deeply. Though Althea had already allowed her a few visits, Kate still carried a quiet shyness, as though she was afraid she had no right.
“Oh, Grandma missed you so much, Josh.”
Kate leaned down, gathering him into her arms, holding him tight as if she would never let go.
“I feel the same way. Oh, but did you know, Grandma?” Josh pulled back slightly from Kate’s embrace. “My leg isn’t healed yet. I still can’t move around much.”
“Then I’ll go with you to therapy, okay? I’ll help you through the whole recovery process. That’s all right with you, isn’t it, Althea?”
Before Althea could answer, the door swung open again. This time Daniel and Riana Miller stepped in.
“Granddad! You’re here already? I thought you weren’t coming until tomorrow.” Josh beamed, his excitement filling the room.
“Is Granddad the only one who gets a welcome like that?” Riana pouted playfully. “Grandmom even brought you pizza.”
“I want some!” Josh laughed. “Grandmom, I want some!”
Althea sat there, struck by the scene before her. Never in her life had she imagined this—everyone connected to her gathered in one room. And not a single glance of hostility, no sneers or muttered insults.
Even Kalina and Felicia, who had never missed a chance to throw barbs at her, seemed transformed. They looked genuinely regretful for what they’d done in the past, hoping Althea might grant them a sliver of forgiveness, a chance to change—not because of the Callister blood in Josh, but because they’d finally realized she was a woman of sincerity and heart, a woman they had wasted.
If only they had seen it clearly back then…
