“Yvan, are you really single?”

Yvan was annoyed. “Whether I have a girlfriend or not is none of your business.”

“If you don't, then why not give me a chance?” Zona pressed, her eyes shining with fervor. “Yvan, I like you. I've always liked you. My feelings for you have never changed.”

Yvan shot her a look dripping with contempt and mockery.

“Ms. Ward, you're just as narcissistic as you were in high school,” he said coldly. “Just because you like me, I'm supposed to accept you? Who do you think you are?”

With that, he couldn't be bothered to waste another word on her and started to walk around her.

Zona's face flushed crimson as she stepped in front of him again. “Yvan, what's so wrong with me?”

“What is it about me that you can't stand?” Zona demanded, her eyes filled with resentment. “You were willing to stoop to someone like Winifred, so why not me? What does she have that I don't?”

At the mention of Winifred's name, Yvan's expression shifted.

“Shut up!” he growled. “You don't get to insult her.”

“Ha! You two broke up, didn't you? Why are you still defending her?” Zona's jealousy flared, her words turning venomous. “Winifred is an ugly, boring hick. I have no idea what you ever saw in her. Yvan, are you blind?”

If she weren't a woman, Yvan would have decked her right then and there.

He fought to control his rage. “Zona, I just like her! In my eyes, you're not even worth a single strand of her hair. Do me a favor and stay out of my sight from now on. Otherwise, I can't guarantee what I might do.”

Zona froze.

She'd once heard a rumor that Winifred had been the one to break up with him.

At the time, Zona had dismissed it as nonsense. She couldn't imagine Winifred ever dumping Yvan.

But now, Yvan had just told her to her face that he liked Winifred.

He still likes her? Could it be true that she was the one who dumped him?

And he'd said she couldn't compare to Winifred!

Humiliation turned to fury. “Of course I can't compare to Winifred! She's a psycho! She's schizophrenic! Do you even know what that means? It means she's a lunatic, completely out of her mind, stripping naked in the streets…”
