How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 5

Winifred sat on the bus. It was the end of the school day, and groups of students in their blue and white uniforms filled the streets, their faces bright with youthful energy, creating a vibrant scene.

Up ahead was the high school she had once attended—Pinecrest Preparatory School. It was there that her life had first intersected with Yvan’s.

Her mind drifted, and memories from the past came flooding back.

She had transferred there for her senior year.

She had grown up in a small, unknown town in Oakwood City, living there from childhood through her sophomore year of high school.

Then, during her junior year, her mother, who had shown little interest in her life, suddenly demanded she move to Zion.

She said she had remarried and settled down in the city.

Winifred hadn't wanted to go. She had no desire to live with a mother who was practically a stranger, in a home with a stepfather she’d never met and a stepsister who was no relation to her at all.

Most importantly, she didn’t want to leave her grandmother.

Ever since her parents divorced when she was six, her grandmother had been the one to raise her.

Her father had vanished without a trace after the divorce, and her mother, aside from wiring money every month, was rarely seen.

In the entire world, her grandmother was the only person who truly loved her. They were incredibly close.

But she had no say in the matter. Her mother quickly arranged the transfer, and she was sent to the bustling metropolis of Zion for school.

Arriving at Pinecrest Preparatory School, surrounded by well-dressed, vivacious classmates, the quiet and plainly dressed Winifred felt like a complete outsider.

Some of her classmates looked down on her, calling her a country bumpkin behind her back.

Winifred pretended not to hear and focused all her energy on her studies.

At her old high school in Oakwood City, she had been the top student. But in Zion, she discovered a much bigger pond. The big fish from Oakwood was barely a tadpole here.

Back then, Yvan was in her class.

Yvan was the school's heartthrob, not only handsome but also from a very wealthy family. Girls were always trying to talk to him, slipping him love letters.

Winifred had nothing to do with someone so dazzling. In the six months since she had transferred, she hadn’t exchanged a single word with him.

Until one day, when it was her turn for classroom duty.
