Why should she care about his life? Whether he was married or not had nothing to do with her. She shouldn't let him affect her anymore.
Yvan was still talking to Delia. "We have a playground and a swimming pool at my house. I'll bring you over to play sometime. You can bring your mommy, okay?"
"Okay, okay!" Delia exclaimed with delight.
Winifred, however, listened with a growing sense of unease. Why was Yvan being so nice to Delia? It couldn't just be because he liked children.
She remembered that Yvan never used to like kids much, finding them too noisy.
When they arrived at her apartment complex, Winifred got out of the car and lifted Delia out. "Thank you for today. We're going up now."
"I'll walk you up," Yvan offered.
"No, that's not necessary." Winifred quickly took a step back.
Yvan turned to Delia. "Delia, want me to carry you upstairs?"
This time, Winifred didn't give him the chance, turning to glare at him. "Yvan, what exactly are you trying to do?"
"Winifred, I spent the whole afternoon with you, and this is the attitude I get?" Yvan said, displeased.
"I didn't ask you to stay. I told you to leave a long time ago," Winifred said coldly. "And my name isn't Winifred anymore. It's Dr. Spencer."
Yvan chuckled. "Alright, Dr. Spencer. Even if I stayed of my own accord, you don't have to treat me like this, do you?"
Winifred took a deep breath. "Mr. Brown, thank you very much for helping me take the child to the hospital today. Now that she's been treated, you can go home."
"If you're going to thank someone, you should be sincere about it," Yvan said, his hands in his pockets. "How about you treat me to dinner another day? Bring Delia along."
He wanted to suggest dinner tonight, but he knew Delia was still sick and Winifred would need to care for her.
Winifred was speechless.
"Mr. Brown, please wait here. I'm going to take Delia upstairs, and then I'll be right back down. I have something to say to you."
She had to make it clear to him. She had to ask him to stop bothering her.
Yvan agreed. He had things he wanted to say to her alone, too.
