Winifred pressed her lips together. “Mr. Lee, that’s not fair. Cornelia was the one in the wrong. I have a clear conscience. Why am I the one being pulled?”
Sean sighed. “Winifred, you’re still too young. Cornelia is the director’s daughter, and you’re just an ordinary employee. The moment you crossed her, you should have known what would follow.”
So, it didn’t matter if it was her fault or not. She had offended the director’s daughter, and now she had to pay the price.
Sean continued, “I actually wanted you to lead this outreach lecture. You have a great image, excellent qualifications and skills, and you work very hard. Yesterday’s rehearsal was a huge success. But this decision came from above, and there’s nothing I can do to change it.”
Winifred lowered her eyes, biting her lip. “Okay, I understand.”
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Sean called out, “Come in.”
Maria walked in. “Mr. Lee.”
Sean nodded, then said to Winifred, “Winifred, please take the next few days to hand things over to Dr. Harris. She’ll be taking over the outreach program.”
Winifred looked at Maria, who stood there brimming with pride and triumph.
“Dr. Spencer, thank you for your hard work.”
Winifred’s expression was cold as she walked out without a word.
Maria followed Winifred out.
Winifred went to the doctors’ office, sent the files to Maria, and then said, “Dr. Harris, you should take the next few days to get familiar with this. If you have any questions, you can ask Patrick.”
Maria glanced at the files and said, “Is this everything?”
Winifred replied, “That’s everything.”
Maria smiled. “Now, Dr. Spencer, don’t hold anything back. You know I’m taking this on at the last minute, and there’s a lot I don’t know. I’ll be counting on your guidance.”
Winifred’s face was impassive. “It’s just a lecture for children. The presentation is already made for you. All you have to do is read it, Dr. Harris. How hard can that be? It’s my first time teaching kids too, so I can’t offer much guidance. Besides, the official recording isn’t for another week. You have plenty of time to practice, Dr. Harris. Nothing to worry about.”
