How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 75

Winifred was just about to go to bed when Yvan’s call came through. She hesitated, debating whether to answer.

She knew he’d been waiting for her downstairs every day. Her plan was to ignore him, to let him cool his heels for a while until he got discouraged and gave up.

A man like Mr. Brown wouldn't demean himself by chasing a woman so humbly for long.

So why was he calling now?

Winifred let the phone ring until it went silent, not picking up.

When Yvan saw she didn’t answer, he called again. And again. After several missed calls, Winifred finally answered.

“Yvan, what do you want?” she asked, her voice laced with impatience.

There was a pause on the other end before Yvan’s drunken voice came through.

“Winifred, I miss you.”

Winifred’s body went rigid.

That was the phrase Yvan used to say most often when they were dating.

They were long-distance then, and every time he called at night, he would say it.

Back then, hearing those words made her smile with pure happiness. Now, they felt like a cruel joke. He probably just missed her body.

Yvan was clearly drunk.

She frowned. “Yvan, if you harass me again, I’m blocking you.”

“Don’t…” he pleaded. “Don’t block me, Winifred.”

She could hear his heavy breathing through the phone; he sounded like he’d had a lot to drink.

Winifred knew she should just hang up, but he was drunk and alone. What if something happened…?

Her face was stern. “Yvan, where are you right now?”

“Hearthstone Pub.”

“Are any of your friends with you?”

“No,” Yvan said, rubbing his forehead. “I’m alone.”

The alcohol was hitting him hard, and his head was pounding.

“Can you get home by yourself?”
