She wanted to repay the favor.
After New Year's Day, as Winifred arrived at the clinic, Stella leaned in close. 'Dr. Spencer, have you heard? Maria's presentation was a total disaster.'
'No, I hadn't. What happened?' Winifred asked, curious.
'I heard from Patrick that Maria's presentation was terrible. The kindergarteners didn't like her at all. They kept saying they wanted you, that they had an agreement with you, and they refused to cooperate.' Stella was clearly enjoying the gossip. 'So the recording session couldn't be finished and had to be rescheduled.'
'Really?' Winifred was surprised.
'Yes! Dr. Spencer, how are you so good at this? You only taught them one class, and now they won't have anyone else.' Stella gave her a thumbs-up.
Winifred was quite surprised herself. She hadn't expected the children to remember her, let alone insist on having her.
During the rehearsal, she had promised them she'd see them next week and that she'd bring them gifts.
But then she was replaced because of everything that had happened, and she hadn't given it much thought. They were just little kids, after all. A white lie, a few presents, and some sweet talk should have been enough to appease them, right?
Maria's presentation must have been truly awful.
Winifred heard the story but didn't dwell on it. It wasn't her responsibility anymore.
However, just before the end of the day, Mr. Lee called her into his office again.
Maria was there too, her eyes red and swollen from crying. When she saw Winifred enter, she shot her a glare and stormed out.
'Winifred, I have something to tell you,' Mr. Lee said with a cheerful smile. 'The hospital administration has decided that you will be the one to give the community presentation after all.'
