Chapter 60
Lorenzo’s brow furrowed as Charlotte spoke. He bristled at her assumptions. Unlike Charlotte, who had only recently been inducted into the Dark Spike Pack, Lorenzo had stood steadfastly at Preston’s side for years, guarding the Alpha’s
interests.
To Lorenzo, Giselle–Derek’s sister–was Preston’s true love. Georgia was insignificant in comparison.
“There are things you don’t know,” Lorenzo said sharply, his voice tinged with irritation. “Don’t go making baseless judgments.”
Charlotte smiled thinly, recognizing the self–righteousness that colored Lorenzo’s tone.
erin,”
“Call her in,” Lorenzo commanded, pointing to Laura’s photo on the screen.
Charlotte nodded, harboring no fondness for Laura.
When Laura was summoned to Charlotte’s office, unease gripped her every step. The confident arrogance she once flaunted was gone, replaced by a meek humility.
“Charlotte,” she greeted, no longer bold but cautious.

“I don’t know. Maybe someone tipped him off,” Laura answered quickly. “Charlotte, believe me–I’m terrified of water. When I was a child, I nearly drowned. That’s why I refused Mr. Talon’s request immediately. That’s all I did.”
“So, you had no involvement in what happened in the room today?”
“That’s right!” Laura insisted, her voice shaky.
Once, Laura had fancied herself capable of navigating this world without the club’s protection. But recent events had stripped away her illusions, forcing her to recognize the harsh realities and merciless rules that governed this world.
Fear twisted in her gut. Her thoughts turned to Georgia–the quiet, isolated girl. Time was short, and instinct told Laura that Georgia might be her only hope.
“Charlotte, please believe me. I had nothing to do with today’s incident. If you don’t trust me, ask Georgia. She’ll clear my
Charlotte thought bitterly, What makes you think Georgia would defend you after everything you put her through? Just because Georgia rarely speaks, you assume she’d betray her own truth?
Lorenzo withheld the truth that Laura had set Georgia up. ‘Mr. Hill’s no fool,‘ he thought. “He’s probably pieced it together already.
“Was the woman’s name Laura? Titus just called me begging for mercy. He told me something useful–that Mr. Foster recommended a woman to him. She was ‘special, willing to do anything. Coincidentally, her name was Laura.”
