Kate, knowing that Sawyer had responded, immediately reclined on the chaise lounge in the living room.

She faced away from the main area, thinking that as soon as Sawyer walked from the study into the living room, he would see her slight figure. She was sure that it would stir his protective instincts.

She waited with that thought in mind, but Sawyer never appeared.

Confused, she called Lola over and asked in a low voice, "Are you sure you told him that I'm upset? Did you make it clear?"

Lola nodded. "Yes, I told him. I even mentioned that you barely ate dinner."

Sawyer had always urged her to eat more to maintain her strength. Kate assumed that it was because he was preparing for them to have children. So, she obediently ate as instructed. She even gained eight pounds over the past few months.

Now, a sense of unease crept into her chest. She wondered if Sawyer had lost interest in her. But they hadn't even been intimate yet.

Kate thought that she couldn't just sit idly by, so she had Lola make some tea. Then, she brought it to the study.

Seeing her arrive, Sawyer looked up as if he had forgotten what Lola had said earlier. "Aren't you sleeping yet?"

Kate set down the tea, her eyes full of concern. "Lola said that you're buried in work and even smoked. Is work stressful?"

She deliberately mentioned Lola, hoping to remind Sawyer of her earlier bad mood.

"Yeah, the R&D progress is a bit slow," he replied briefly, then immediately returned to his work.

With nowhere to sit, Kate stood awkwardly.

She didn't know why he didn't ask her what was wrong. Didn't he want to know why she was upset?

Sawyer seemed to sense her thoughts. He finally looked at her. "Lola said you were in a bad mood and had little appetite. What's going on?"

Finally, he asked.

Kate felt a wave of relief. She pressed her lips together in grievance and timidly looked up at Sawyer. She thought her expression must be irresistibly endearing, especially to Sawyer, since he adored her

"You were distracted when I talked to you during dinner," she said.
