"Hey, keep it down! Don't let Mrs. Burton hear you!" Lydia nudged Taryn, then muttered under her breath, "Although… I have to admit, it is satisfying."
Kate didn't go back to the bedroom, nor did she seek out Sawyer.
She wasn't sure what mood he was in or how he would react, so she decided to wait for the chicken soup to be ready, then find a reason to approach him.
With that thought in mind, she kept a sharp eye on the kitchen.
After an hour and 15 minutes, she was getting restless. If she waited any longer, Sawyer would probably already be asleep.
She watched the study. He still hadn't come out.
Kate finally went to the kitchen. Frowning, she asked, "It's still not done? Why are you taking so long?"
Originally, Keaton had suggested to Sawyer that they build a small coop in a corner of the garden to raise chickens and ducks for healthy meat and a balanced diet. It wouldn't be anywhere near Kate's room.
Sawyer had agreed.
But when Kate noticed it while lounging at home, she immediately had it torn down. She complained about the smell and said that no one would raise chickens and ducks in an ocean-view villa.
Moreover, she was worried that Rhea, who lived next door, might happen to see that. She thought that it would make her seem poor and pathetic.
Because of that, when she asked for chicken soup, Lydia and Taryn had to go out and buy a fresh whole chicken, which took at least half an hour.
With only 30 minutes left, it would take a miracle for the soup to be prepared in time.
"Can't you use a pressure cooker?" Kate snapped.
A faint smile flickered across Taryn's eyes. "Mrs. Burton, good chicken soup requires slow cooking to bring out the flavor. I was hired for kitchen work. If I used a pressure cooker, the chicken would fall apart. What would you eat then? If you want chicken soup, just give the word. It'll be on your table first thing tomorrow morning."
She then removed her hygienic mask and apron. "And if you think you can win Mr. Burton with this soup you forced us to make, don't be surprised when you're the one who gets chewed out."
"You!" Kate's anger boiled over. "What did you just say?"
"Hey, enough!" Lydia pulled Taryn back.
Taryn looked Kate in the eye. "Honestly, your manners are the worst I've ever seen in a lady of any wealthy household. I don't know where your parents spent all that money raising you. Want chicken soup in 15 minutes? Go make it yourself! I'm done!"
