I Quit Being a Stepmother (Cypress Gem) novel Chapter 595

Kate's eyes were bloodshot as she shouted hoarsely, "Sawyer Burton!"

"Yet, you still have the nerve to compare yourself to Ms. Ravelle in your mind," Sawyer continued. "And worse, you compare me to Mr. Snider. When I hear that, I even despise myself. You're friends with Ms. Ravelle. She got promoted to regional director by Damian at such a young age. And you? You can't even translate a contract. You're only fit to scrub toilets."

Every word he spoke cut deep, and he wasn't done. "You know what? When I told the maids that you'd be scrubbing toilets, their faces fell. In their eyes, you can't even handle such a simple chore. Imagine how useless that makes you."

Kate's pride and dignity were shattered beneath his words. Her eyes glowed dark red with fury. "So you married me just to humiliate and insult me like this someday? Are you insane?"

Kate suddenly realized that Sawyer harbored hatred toward her.

He took half a step back. "That's my business. You don't get to ask. Now scrub the toilets. I have a guest coming."

Someone was coming?

Her mind was spinning, overwhelmed by anger, but Kate still managed to carve out a sliver of rational thought to consider her predicament.

She had no idea why Sawyer hated her, but now that she knew something was seriously wrong, she had to figure out a way to get help.

If someone was coming, perhaps she could plead her case.

After all, anyone Sawyer invited into his home must be influential. She was sure that they wouldn't just stand by and do nothing.

Kate reluctantly grabbed the toilet brush.

She scrubbed with a force that seemed aimed at Sawyer, Rhea, and all the maids.

Her tears fell, one by one, splashing against the porcelain. She bit her lip hard.

Rhea was supposed to be out of her life. And yet, it felt like she was everywhere.

Kate swore that she would remember the shame she endured that day forever.
