Sawyer's revulsion was undisguised. It stabbed Kate in the heart, making her feel awful.

After he left, Taryn and the other maids prepared the seafood to be cooked. With a chef around, the dishes couldn't go wrong.

However, Kate was left to cook her own food. She was too exhausted to do anything special, so she prepared a simple plate of pasta.

She wanted to eat at the dining table, but Taryn stopped her. "Mr. Burton said you're not allowed to eat at the dining table. You can eat here in the kitchen."

"Are you sure Sawyer said that? Didn't it come from your own mouth?" Kate forced through gritted teeth.

Taryn shrugged. "Ask Mr. Burton if you don't believe me."

Ask Sawyer? Kate didn't want to do that anymore. Each time he opened his mouth, he would just insult and humiliate her. She'd heard enough of that!

So, Kate was forced to squeeze into a seat at a small bar counter in the kitchen with the maids as she ate her dinner. They enjoyed the seafood and chatted away happily beside her.

She didn't see herself as pathetic, though. She figured that she had just been unlucky enough to meet the wrong person, unlucky enough that Sawyer had picked her to be his target for revenge.

The following day, Kate slept in until past 10:00 am because she was exhausted from the day before.

When someone knocked on her door, she shot up in bed, feeling furious. "Give me a break!"

Taryn's voice drifted in lazily from outside. "Someone's looking for you. Forget it if you don't want to see them."

Someone was looking for her? Connor!

Kate scrambled out of bed, instinctively wanting to hide the wounds on her knees. But when she thought about how Connor would find a way to get her out of this place when he saw the abuse she'd been subject to, she decided against changing her attire. She kept her bruised and battered knees in full view as she hurriedly ran downstairs.

Taryn unlocked the front door as Kate stared at it expectantly. Then, she stepped forward, crying, "Dad!"

How could she possibly entertain these guests when she looked like trash? Evelyn was such a loudmouth that she would definitely spread the word about this. Kate inwardly cursed.

Liora hadn't wanted to come in the first place. Now, she looked at Kate. "You're injured? How did it happen?"

Kate tried her best to make herself look relaxed and at ease. "I gained a bit of weight, so I thought I'd do some yoga. It's been a while, so my knees couldn't take it."

Valerie started, "Well, I guess we'll—"

But before she could finish speaking, Sawyer emerged from the villa. "Oh, all your friends are here, Kate. Please, come in."

Kate clenched her jaw. She was sure that he was going to do something to humiliate her again! Did it get him off to see her utterly shamed in front of everyone?
