Sawyer couldn't help but marvel inwardly. With Kate's brains and resilience, her life would be much better than it is now—if only she had proper morals and ethics. It was a shame that she was always up to no good.
Did she think she could stop him from doing anything to her as long as she struck first? Sawyer found that notion interesting.
It seemed that Kate thought that making her do some housework was his form of revenge. She was far too naive.
Rhea was indeed at home. When she learned that her friends were all around, she brought some expensive tea and wine with her.
Keaton took the items, his smile wide. "This way, please, Ms. Ravelle."
"Rhea!" the ladies chimed.
Kate, who was wiping a cabinet in an attempt to appear as though she was cleaning the house, heard them fawn over Rhea. Her expression turned icy.
They just had a stronger bond with Rhea than they did with her, even though she had spent more time with them. They'd all been glued to the sides when Rhea had spent all those years in Colburn after marrying Carter. But once Rhea came back, the women revolved around her again.
Out of sight, out of mind. Kate went to the kitchen and began preparing lunch silently. Taryn was also busy, so she didn't have time to argue with Kate.
"Why are there so many vegetables?" Kate noticed the abundance of fresh greens. It didn't seem like they were meant for just one meal. Even with all her friends present, they wouldn't be able to finish the food.
"Mr. Burton invited other guests," Lydia explained.
Other guests? Who?
Kate had enjoyed having people over after marrying Sawyer. No matter who it was, she could find ways to show off her married life.
Now, however, she didn't want to see a single guest. Not even one!
She swallowed her irritation and stayed in the kitchen, refusing to go out.
"Is Kate such a fan of housework now? Is she really dieting?" Evelyn muttered.
Liora shrugged. "Who knows? She's always been unpredictable, but she was never like this in the past."
It seemed that Kate's mind had truly gone down the drain since falling out with Rhea.
…

"What?"
"She washed the toilets herself?"
"She scrubbed the floor while on her knees?"
"She caught chickens and slaughtered them?"
None of the women present would be caught dead doing such things. Naturally, they wouldn't need to do them in the first place. Yet Kate…
Evelyn and the others were also surprised to hear that. If Kate was going to such lengths, could she really be facing some mental health issues?
They'd heard about certain psychiatric patients acting similarly.
