Kate heard all of this from the kitchen and was so infuriated that she snapped a cucumber in half.
What nonsense was Sawyer spouting? How dare he twist the truth like that!
He was the one who'd forced her to do those things, yet he was now turning them on her and making it seem like she'd willingly offered to do them! He'd even insinuated that she was acting like this because she was insane!
She wanted to charge out there to tell everyone the truth. This feeling of being slandered without having any way of arguing back… She could finally understand how Rhea would've felt when she had slandered her in the past.
Anyone who tried to frame her was despicable and deserving of damnation! And yet, that person was the man she loved.
Kate's smile turned bitter. She had been unfortunate enough to fall for the wrong man.
"Kate." Sawyer appeared at the kitchen's entrance, and Kate froze.
What did he want? How was he going to humiliate her now? Did he want her to wipe the floor-to-ceiling windows or the door? Or did he want her to bring their guests drinks again?
However, all he said was, "Go get changed and get yourself ready so you can sit with your friends for a proper meal and conversation. Don't forget how to be a proper hostess."
Kate thought she'd misheard him.
He urged, "Go on."
Only then did she cast aside the split cucumber in her hands and hurry upstairs. She spent over 40 minutes making herself look polished and radiant.
She wondered if Sawyer had suddenly changed his tune because he saw how refined her friends looked. Had he realized that it was shameful for him to treat her the way he had?
Kate figured that if Sawyer was done venting his anger and was willing to give her a proper explanation for his recent behavior, she was willing to give him another chance. However, he'd have to make it up to her properly before that.
It seemed that her heart was softer than she thought. Well, what could she do? She cared about him.
"Mrs. Burton."
"Mrs. Burton, how could we trouble you to cook for us? It's so rude of us."
"Exactly. Come on. Take a seat and put your feet up."
Compared to the disheveled mess Kate had looked like when the first group of ladies had arrived, the current Kate was back to looking like her old, poised, elegant self.

Sawyer said nothing throughout the whole thing, save for asking Rhea where George was. She told him that he was at work.
If another man were present, at least they'd be able to chat with Sawyer.
Valerie and the others initially found it odd. Usually, under such circumstances, the master of the household wouldn't linger. He would give the women the space they needed.
However, Sawyer had stuck around for the whole thing. He'd even occasionally chatted with Rhea and Valerie about some industry-related matters.
It seemed that he had something in mind.
Liora said, "Mr. Burton, my husband's nearby. I…"
Sawyer said, "I'll send a car to pick Mr. Marsh up."
"No, no, it's fine! He drove." Liora quickly texted Zayne, telling him to hurry up if he wasn't attending to anything urgent.
She rarely used such a tone with him, so he dropped everything without a moment's hesitation and hopped into his car. He floored the gas, taking only 20 minutes to get to the villa.
