Alexander paused for a moment, the disappointment in his eyes flickering before he quickly hid it.

“Okay, you can do it yourself.” He placed the cup gently in Natalie’s hand.

She took it and sipped, still looking down. The water was just right. She never glanced at Alexander, her face unreadable, as if he could have been anyone.

“Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat? My grandma had some soup made for you, it should be here soon,” Alexander offered, his voice soft and careful.

“I’m not hungry,” Natalie replied, her tone calm and distant.

“Grandma was so happy to know you woke up. She insisted on the soup. Just try a little, it’ll help you get your strength back, okay?”

Natalie still didn’t look at him. “Alexander Ramirez,” she said, her voice steady and quiet, “you don’t need to visit me again. Nothing is going to change between us. From now on, let’s just… move on with our own lives.”

Alexander felt his heart drop, sharp and sudden, like something inside him had been cut. He looked at her pale face, wanting to ask for forgiveness, to beg her not to push him away. But he couldn’t. The hurt he’d caused her couldn’t just disappear because he wanted it to.

Right then, the door opened. Arianna walked in and stopped when she saw Alexander standing there. The room went quiet, heavy with tension.

“Natalie, I brought you some fruit,” Arianna said, setting a bag down on the table.

“Arianna, can you walk Mr. Ramirez out?” Natalie looked up at her friend, her voice clear but emotionless.

Alexander kept his eyes on her, a mess of feelings he couldn’t say out loud. Arianna nodded and walked over. “Mr. Ramirez, let me show you out.”
