Raven pressed her lips together. "Lachlan doesn't know anyone in Aetheris. Where else would he go besides us? And he was perfectly fine staying at the hotel—why would he suddenly check out like a madman? And he's not picking up his phone."
As she spoke, Tess noticed that Raven's phone screen was still lit up on the dialing page for Lachlan.
"The number you have reached is currently unavailable. Please leave a message after the tone, or try your call ... "
Raven had turned up the volume on her phone, and that's what they heard.
She hung up in defeat.
"Should we go find Finn?"
Raven looked up, her eyes and tone carrying a hint of pleading.
Tess didn't respond immediately. She lowered her gaze, her delicate eyes falling.
Raven knew the request she was making was unreasonable, but this was the only possibility she could think of right now.
After all, Lachlan was incredibly single-minded.
They'd met in Krigan. He knew some things about Tess's childhood with her grandmother, but he was completely unfamiliar with her school years. That left only one period for him to learn about—those few years of married life with Finn.
"Alright."
After a long moment, Tess nodded.
...
At Lock Group, in the CEO's office on the top floor.
Finn's thick brows furrowed as his deep gaze studied the person before him.
"You want to know about me and Tess?"
The man's voice was low and cold.
"Yes. I want to know how exactly you treated her all those years. And why on earth did she fall for someone like you?"
Lachlan sat upright across from Finn, his posture proper.
Compared to Finn's imposing and overwhelming presence, he appeared refined.
Finn didn't answer immediately. He remained silent, his gaze sweeping over the person before him.
Ever since their divorce, there seemed to be more and more men around Tess.
His eyes darkened, the pupils swallowing the light until they were pure black. His expression was neutral, but the tension radiating from him made his anger unmistakable.
After a long pause, Finn sneered coldly. "What gives you the right to ask me these things?"
His cold gaze swept over Lachlan, filled with undisguised contempt.
"I want to understand her past. Even though you're history now, you're still a stain on her record."
Lachlan's blue eyes remained completely unaffected, showing no emotion.
His blunt words sent the temperature around Finn plummeting.
His jaw clenched tight. For a moment, he couldn't tell if this person had come here specifically to provoke him.
"Why don't you go ask her yourself?"
Shameful past?

No wonder Tess doesn't want you ...
