After that night, I changed. My heart had been broken, I had been broken. I no longer cared. About anything. I didn’t care what they were doing to my body, whether that be getting their own pleasure or hurting me. None of it mattered. Not to me.

I was a shell of a person. Empty. Void of all emotion. It was… unnerving for everyone, to say

the least.

I used to be the world’s biggest crybaby. Ever since I was little I was like that. I was shy, timid, scared of everything. Then I met the guys and they protected me in every way. So, I never hardened like most people do over time. Even when Everly pulled her bullsh.it. I had barely hardened at all. I was still holding onto hope that they would see past her charade. Just like I was still holding out hope that they cared about me, that they were going to rescue me.

What a joke.

Now I’m different. Not exactly the opposite. To be opposite would mean I’d show some kind of emotion. Which, I suppose that I do occasionally. Or, used to. Until Daniel realized that if he behaved, then I would too.

Honestly, I’m not sure why they put up with so much of my bullsh.it, but they always do. Once Daniel realized that I knew I could essentially get away with anything, we came to an understanding. I mean, he had no choice. His little tricks or torture had lost their value with me. I no longer cared about anything and that included myself.

I still remember that conversation too. It was about four months ago now. It was the first time I’d felt satisfaction like that. It was gross. I hated it.

“What the hell is wrong with you?!” Daniel screamed in my face before back–handing me again. That was the fourth time he hit me on the same cheek. I can feel it swelling and feel blood dripping from my lip.

“Daniel, you need to calm down,” Mason said.

“Calm down!” he roared. “She bit my fu.cking di.ck! I needed fu.cking stitches! This little bit.ch is lucky I don’t slice up her fu.cking little golden pussy!”

I snorted, the action making me wince slightly. It was true. I did do that. I just… wondered what he would do if I bit him. I didn’t originally mean to do it rough enough to draw blood, but hey, it was worth any kind of beating I’m going to get.

“You know you can’t do that,” Mason said calmly.

“What if it was your di.ck!” Daniel shouted.

“Then you’d be calming me down so that I don’t fu.ck up the merchandise,” Mason ground

out.

Merchandise. What a fu.cking joke. Like I’m not a living, breathing person. Nope. Just a money sign to them.

Still… I knew that they avoided my face. I knew that I was special. But I thought that it was just because I was a virgin. I definitely thought I had limits. Ya know, like biting off Daniel’s di.ck would probably get me beaten to a bloody pulp, or maybe they’d actually ra.pe me instead of selling me. I mean, how much money am I really worth when they have all the other virgins now? Am I really worth keeping around when I cause this much trouble?

God, I wish they’d kill me already.

“She’s more fu.cking trouble than she’s worth!” Daniel shouted. Then he looked at me. He clicked his tongue, his body relaxing finally, but I recognized that look in his eyes. He wanted to rage at me and I wished he fu.cking would. “You, my darling daughter, are so lucky that you’re extra special.”

“Extra special?” I asked. “Why? Because I’m branded?”

“Something like that,” Daniel ground out.

“Look, how about I go prepare the spiked whip?” Mason offered. “Might help you take out-”

“No,” I cut him off. They both looked at me like they weren’t sure if I’d actually said that or not. “You won’t be getting any kind of whip or hurting me at all.”

Daniel sputtered out a laugh.

“What the hell makes you think you can boss us around?” he asked.

“I’m apparently special, you said it yourself,” I said. “So, either you can stop hurting me, and I’ll follow your little fu.cking rules… I’ll cook, clean, do anything but the torture… I’ll keep my head down, obey the rules, and I won’t act out anymore. But you have to stop hurting me.”

Daniel laughed. It held no amusement. Even Mason looked at him like he’d gone off his

rocker.

“You think you’re so smart,” he spat, getting in my face.

“No, I think I’m just tired of all your bullsh.it,” I sneered right back.

“Fine,” Daniel said after looking at me for a moment. “But you will get punished when I see fit. So, you better not act out.”

“Just remember our deal,” I spat.

“Mason, go get that whip ready,” Daniel ordered without taking his eyes off me.

“But you just said-”

“This will be our last punishment for a while it seems,” he cut me off. “Let’s make it worth it.”

And boy did he. I couldn’t sit or be on my back for a week. Ever since then though, things have been… better, I guess. I get to go outside now. Always with Daniel. I’m a bit surprised that he lets me, but what am I going to do? Run away again? Where would I even go?

Anywhere’s better than here…

I ignored the little voice in my head. She’s a real positive one. I can’t stand it. Hasn’t all of that been killed in me already?

“Hey,” a voice came from behind me with a tap to my

shoulder.

I jumped, possibly a little too much, and turned around. There was a man standing behind me looking sheepish. He was rubbing the back of his neck with a shy smile. He was cute, really cute. His hair was sandy–blonde in color and styled neatly. He had light blue eyes that were almost clear. He was dressed in faded blue jeans and a blue polo–collared shirt.

“Sean?”

“Daniel.”

“Sean, this is my daughter, Blythe,” Daniel said, wrapping his arm around me and making me

stiffen. “Blythe, this is Sean.”

“Nice to meet you, Blythe. That’s a very pretty name.”

I thought it was sweet. It was bold of Sean to hit on me in front of my father, but it’s not like he knew what kind of person Daniel was. Still bold to hit on a girl in front of her father, but the man seemed to be teeming with confidence.

“What if you two met up for dinner sometime?”

Wait, what?

“I trust Sean. He’s got a good head on his shoulders.”

That meant that Sean had money.

“Should we meet somewhere? How’s tomorrow for you?” Sean asked.

My eyes flickered to Daniel’s.

“Tomorrow’s great,” he replied for me. “I’ll drop her off at the restaurant for you. Text me.”

Sean nodded to Daniel. Then his eyes met mine again. He seemed… kind. It didn’t matter though. If Daniel wants me to go out with him, I will. He probably wants Sean to buy me. Finally, a buyer. I’m not sure if that’s better or worse, but I won’t lie and say I haven’t been dying to find out.

All the virgins are sold off. Usually before or on their 18th birthdays. I’m the only one my age that hasn’t been bought. I wonder what makes Sean so special. He must have a lot of money.

I wonder what Sean will do if he finds out what Silent Divine does. Would he be like Daniel and Mason? Would he be outraged? Would he try to rescue me? Would he be disgusted by

“You better not blow this,” Daniel said once we got into the car. “Sean has a lot of money, he’s an important man. You better make a good impression. If he doesn’t buy you… our little deal we got going on is off. Understood?”
