Invisible to My First Love (Harper and Maddox) novel Chapter 51

Chapter 51

Harper

The private jet was nothing like I imagined, it was better. There were white leather seats, champagne in a silver bucket and a flight attendant who treated me like I was royalty. Each time she smiled at me, she called me Miss Moore. I almost laughed as I wasn’t used to that kind of respect, but I wasn’t going to complain.

During the entire flight, I replayed that day’s events, telling myself I needed to work on my feelings so I could bury everything that I felt. I treated that as an official new chapter in my life and it made everything so much easier.

With a champagne glass in hand, I only meant to shift in my seat but I was so clumsy with it that I almost spilled some of it on my trench coat. I sighed with relief as that didn’t happen in the end.

I chuckled quietly at how I couldn’t risk making a mess of the trench coat because it was the only clothing hiding what was underneath and it was for Maddox’s eyes only.

I even crossed my legs to get more comfortable, glancing at the sexy black heels I had on.

He had been so impatient before, but now, he was silent and that only made me anticipate the moment I would see him even more.

The jet landed at 10 PM and a chauffeur was waiting on the runway with a limousine. He smiled at me and held the door open for me like I was someone important. I got into the backseat, comfortably sinking into the plush leather seat.

By the time the limousine pulled up to his place, I could feel my heart pounding in my ears.

I carried my handbag with me when the chauffeur opened the limousine door for me and swept his hand towards the front door.

My steps came to a halt right when I was in front of it and I sent Maddox a text to inform him that I had arrived. Just as he had instructed me to do. I was certain that he’d heard the engine, yet I still felt the need to tell him.

His reply was so instant that it felt like he’d been waiting with his phone in his hand.

“Come straight to the home office. Third floor, last door on the left.”

His instructions sent a shiver down my spine. He wasn’t coming to meet me at the door. He wanted me to go in there and find him.

I pushed open the front door and walked into the foyer. It took me a moment to head to the

third floor as I couldn’t stop looking around. I couldn’t even decide on which one I preferred between his new place and the one in San Francisco.

I had two options to get to the third floor, the stairs or the elevator and I ended up using the elevator. I told myself it was because that was the easiest way I could get to him since I was in heels, but I also just couldn’t wait to get to him.

When the elevator doors opened and I got to the third floor, I stared down the hallway with polished black tiles and tall white doors.

I was already heading towards the left so I could get to the last door when I heard him. His voice was sharp, each word filled with frustration. I figured he was on the phone as he spoke quickly in that business–like tone.

As I walked closer, the door was ajar and I caught his voice again. It was controlled but unmistakably upset.

I pushed the door open with no hesitation and he didn’t even look at me right away. He was standing by a floor–to–ceiling glass window, his suit jacket over the back of his chair and sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

His eyebrows were drawn together and his hand gripped the phone tightly. Everything about him was so serious and intense that it just radiated power and tension. I should’ve felt intimidated, but it all just sent another shiver down my spine. I stood in the doorway, unable to take my eyes off him.

While still on the phone, he noticed me mid–sentence when he raised his head, his eyes locking on me and burning straight through the trench coat I still had on.

I felt barely acknowledged when he looked away and took his seat at his desk. He dropped heavily into the chair and leaned back like a king with his legs apart.
