Chapter 7
Harper
Maddox wasn’t beside me when I woke up later that morning, not that I expected him to be there.
Just as I tried to sit up and stretch, I hissed at the soreness in my body, especially between my legs. It was a wicked reminder of how he handled me last night and I was just taking it because I wanted it.
I lay back down and squeezed the pillow next to me, thinking about the sensation of his tongue when he shoved it inside me before those thrusts that made it seem like he wanted to ruin me and own me at the same time.
If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t have done anything differently. Everything he did, made me forget about the pain in my heart.
Slowly sitting up, I looked around the room and spotted one of his silk robes by a chair and I reached for it to cover my naked body. It smelled just like him.
A gentle knock against the bedroom door grabbed my attention as soon as I tied the knot and whoever it was, waited for my permission to come in. The door creaked open and a man in a black suit with a polished look that only came with years of serving the ultra–wealthy stepped in.
“Good morning, Miss,” he said with a slight bow. “I’m Tim, one of the butlers here. Mr. Aldridge is out for his morning run and should be back in an hour. He instructed us to ensure that you’re well taken care of. Your bath will be ready shortly. Shall I bring your breakfast here or would you prefer the terrace?”
It took me a few seconds to respond, my gaze now stuck on the edge of the bed, right where Maddox had my legs on his shoulders and gave it to me just how I wanted it.
I snapped out of it quickly, smiling at Tim. “The terrace is fine.”
“Very well.”
After specifically telling him what I wanted for breakfast, he closed the door and I reached for my purse on the bedside table to get my phone.
My sister was the first person I thought of when I had it in my hand. She made it clear that her call was a mistake, yet I still wanted to send her a message,
As soon as I turned on my phone, the first notifications to pop up were all about Grayson and Tiffany’s wedding.
I swallowed hard and tightened my jaw. I didn’t even want to see those wedding pictures and videos, but that was what was trending.
It had only been a few seconds of seeing all that and I didn’t even feel like texting Anna anymore. I chuckled painfully at how Grayson was now on my mind despite the hot sex I had with Maddox. It almost made me tear up.
When I was about to toss my phone aside and cover my face with a pillow, there was an incoming call from
Zoey, one of my closest friends from college.
I clicked the answer button after patting my eyes dry like she was going to see me.
“What did I do to be woken up by this angel’s call?” I said, trying to sound cheerful.
She chuckled from the other end of the line. “Hear that, Ella? She’s on the call, too.”
My eyes widened in pleasant surprise. “Hey!”
“Don’t ‘Hey‘ me,” Ella fake cried. “Zoey’s an angel? I thought I was the angel!”
It made me chuckle, especially when they went back and forth. The three of us had always been there for each other in college.
“Guys, did you call just so I could hear you two roast each other?” I asked.
“Right.” Ella cleared her throat. “It seems that all you do is trend these days, Harper.”
I narrowed my eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“You don’t know? The red dress you wore to the wedding? Hello? You were a whole goddess!”
I chuckled, thinking about how Maddox stripped that dress off of me with so much impatience.
“You definitely upstaged that fucking bride.” Zoey clapped three times.
I rolled my eyes. “Oh, please.”
“What? We’re not the only ones saying it. Most people online agree. We even tagged you a few hours ago. Didn’t you check?”
I sighed. “Not Yet. I woke up not too long ago and turned on my phone. So far, everything I’ve seen is about Grayson and Tiffany.”
“Damn, your phone just wants to rub salt into the wound, huh?” Ella said. “Shit, I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry.”
“Please forgive Ella,” Zoey stepped in. “She’s never been good at knowing when to shut up. But seriously, are you okay? I can’t imagine sitting through it all and seeing Grayson get his happily ever after with Tiffany.”
“I’m okay.” I tried to sound convincing.
“You know what? It’s his loss. You have everyone swooning over how gorgeous you are,” Ella said.
The two of them kept the compliments coming and before I knew it, I forgot all about the feeling of my heart breaking into a million pieces when I saw the notifications about Grayson’s wedding.
After freshening up and taking a quick tour of the mansion, I came out to the terrace. It had a long white table that was set like royalty was expected at any moment and even when I took my seat, I still couldn’t decide what to start with, from the strawberries and flaky croissants to the glass of fresh orange juice.
The red strawberries looked so juicy that I wanted to taste them first and just as I took my first bite, I heard footsteps approaching from behind me.
It was only when a figure stopped in front of me that I glanced up and paused with the strawberry in my mouth.
Maddox was shirtless, his sweaty chest still rising and falling rapidly. His hair was so drenched in sweat that it was plastered to his head while pushed back. His shorts also hung too low on his hips, showing off that well defined V. It took my mind places and heightened my desire to feel him inside of me again.
“Sleeping beauty is awake.” His voice was cocky and casual like he hadn’t just given me the best night of my life and walked off like it was nothing. “I see you’ve made yourself comfortable. My robe looks good on you.”
Trying not to stare at the V, I said, “It was the closest thing I could find, so I took it.”
He came closer and stole a strawberry from my plate. “Good girl.”
Fuck. I hated how those words sounded exactly as they did the previous night when I was riding his cock.
The more I thought about it, the more I could feel his cock actually hitting the spot. I needed to shut it out, so I changed the topic.
“I took a tour of this place,” I said. “I was surprised to see some of those art pieces in the hallway. I’ve seen them online and would have never guessed that you had an interest in art, or that you were the one who bought them.”
“Was everything you saw of excellent quality?”
“Yup, every single piece.”
