Invisible to My First Love (Harper and Maddox) novel Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Grayson

Tiffany and I hadn’t yet left for our honeymoon to Greece and it was mainly because I still had one more business meeting later in the day, which she decided to use to her advantage and get herself more clothes and shoes, some things I was certain she wasn’t even going to wear in the next two weeks.

“I was thinking that I should buy more floral sundresses. What do you think?” she asked with enthusiasm.

“You’ll look beautiful in anything. Whatever you feel like…” I trailed off with a sigh while my eyes were on the road, not wanting to really add to the conversation.

She frowned. “What’s with you today?”

“It’s nothing. I just can’t wait to go on our honeymoon. The private jet is ready but we still have to wait because of my business meeting later.”

She rubbed her hand on the side of my shoulder to comfort me. She completely fell for it when the honest truth was that I was actually thinking about Harper. The last time I saw her was when I was taking wedding pictures with the family outside the church. I expected to see her at the wedding reception, but there was no sign of her. That wasn’t how I wanted my big day to play out.

Even her phone was unreachable when I called and I began to wonder what else it could have been. It was then that I figured out she must have decided to stay away so she wouldn’t see the rest of it – the speeches, the wedding cake and me dancing with my wife while I kissed her right on the dance floor. She obviously didn’t want to sit there in tears, but I still wished she had come.

I still had more than enough time before leaving town and already knew the perfect moment I was going to slip away from Tiffany so I could check up on Harper. She was obviously at her new home, curled up in bed with her pillow soaked in tears while she had a bottle of wine or whiskey on her nightstand.

“Babe, drive faster,” Tiffany said. “I can’t wait to get to Maddox’s place. I just don’t understand why he did that. I know we’re not the closest siblings, but how could he not be at the wedding reception?”

I glanced at her. “I was surprised that he didn’t even pick up his uncle’s calls and that says a lot since he’s closer to him than anyone else.”

“Ugh! Maddox obviously watched his phone ring. I mean how else do you explain him declining mom’s call? I was with her when he did that. It fucking pissed me off, but it was worse for her. And he had the nerve to turn off his phone afterwards?” She shifted in her seat with a huff. “He’s really going to hear from me when I finally see him.”

I glanced at her. “You actually make it sound like he owes you an apology. This is your brother we’re talking about. You’re not getting that out of him.”

She rolled her eyes. “I just want to know why he did all that and where the fuck was he?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. You can ask him when we get to his place, that’s if you’ll find him. He might already be out of the country, considering how busy he is with the company these days. Whatever he had to do must have been extremely important to not be there for the rest of his sister’s wedding.”

Tiffany and I still had quite the distance to cover before we would get to Maddox’s estate, the one place I never liked to be. It was so gorgeous that it made him look like he owned the world. He was also one of ten people in the world to have luxury cars custom made for him, one even costing $25,000,000.

I tightened my grip on the steering wheel when we began to approach his estate on the secluded hillside, hoping Tiffany would only spend a few minutes there so we wouldn’t stay too long. As Tiffany’s brother, his presence was a permanent fixture in our lives. I was able to play civil, but that didn’t mean I liked him.
