Chapter 92
Harper
Grayson sighed, getting up too and taking a few steps towards me. He gently placed his hand on my shoulder while behind me and I closed my eyes. I should’ve pushed it off, but I let it rest there like everything was all good between us.
“Harp, I know I’ve been a jerk and our relationship is complicated right now, especially with what recently happened. I said a lot of things I shouldn’t have. Let’s just say we have a lot of things to work out.” He circled me halfway then stopped in front of me to stare into my soul. “But I’m not ready to give up that house when it holds so much significance in my life and the memories we created there.”
For a few seconds, I forgot how to breathe. He had said so many things, but all I picked out was the significance I had in his life.
It was only when he placed his other hand on my other shoulder that I spotted the ring on his finger and I reminded myself that whatever I thought he meant, I was wrong.
I backed away by a few steps as I uncrossed my arms, his hands dropping to his sides.
“How does your family feel about your decision to no longer sell the house?” I asked, my tone casual like I hadn’t just widened the distance between us.
He sighed. “They don’t really care. Everyone has their own thing going on.”
“Here’s what I don’t get.” I crossed my arms and tilted my head. “You’ve been to the Aldridge Estate so many times that you’ve seen what that room means to Maddox. It’s crazy that you only decided to do this now.”
He smacked his lips as he pointed at me. “You got me there. It just took me a while to see the truth. I’m going to keep that house forever. I could’ve told you this over the phone, but I just had to see you in person. I’m glad I didn’t wake you up from your beauty sleep.”
That beauty sleep comment almost had me blushing like a fucking idiot. I had to quickly press my lips together to compose myself.
“I saw the video you posted on your page,” he said, taking one step forward with his eyes scanning my figure.
The look in his eyes was so intense that I wasn’t able to move. “I know. You were the first person to like it.”
“I was already scrolling when I came across it.”
That was the only way it made sense to me. There was no way he was already lurking on my page? For what? He didn’t have to do that for someone like me.
“For the first time, you liked a post of Maddox and I.” I pointed out.
“That’s because all the other ones weren’t posted by you. I still can’t believe you two are in an actual relationship.”
“Yup. Remember all the times you said we were never going to end up together and I shouldn’t get my hopes up? I know I told you we were just having a good time and all, but people do change.”
He scoffed. “It’s too soon.”
My eyes widened dramatically. “Is that your way of saying you already doubt him?”
“How can I not when his past-”
“Speaking of my boyfriend’s past!” I loudly cut in.
“Ugh!” He rolled his eyes.
I chuckled with amusement at how he couldn’t stand how I’d just referred to Maddox.
