Chapter 94

Maddox

At that moment, the documents neatly arranged on my desk looked good enough to shove to the floor so I could take it out on them.

“Grayson came over at 1 AM?” My voice was sharper than I intended.

“Yup. He just left. You sound just as surprised as I was.”

Her tone was so different from what it sounded like when I’d left her hanging. I shouldn’t even have been surprised. It was Grayson who had come to see her.

“Do I even want to know why he was there at this hour?”

“It turns out that he was driving somewhere since his dad couldn’t make it and he had something to tell me so he took the opportunity.”

“He could’ve done that in the morning, but why would he? He knew you were going to open up.” My jaw clenched, but I had to quickly compose myself like she’d see me.

“He came to tell me about how he’s decided not to sell his childhood home.”

At 1 AM?” My eyes narrowed.

She chuckled as she went on to talk about how important the treehouse was to their childhood and some of her most memorable moments in it with him.

“He told me he didn’t want to let it go and you kind of played a role in it because of how you’ve changed nothing about your old room at your dad’s estate.”

I should’ve been flattered, but that only pissed me off. “Now I’m his fucking role model?”

Uhh…everything okay?”

I sighed, rubbing my temples to calm down. “I’m fine.”

Because Grayson had chosen Tiffany over and over again, Harper still couldn’t see what I did. I now knew him too well. There was a bigger reason he had decided not to sell the house.

I should’ve been concerned because he was married to Tiffany, but I didn’t even give a fuck about her and how she’d gotten away with cheating on him.

I was more bothered by how he was still around in Harper’s life and now wanted to make his mark.

“Let me guess,” I paused just to roll my eyes, “you were thrilled to hear that, despite everything he’s said and done?”

There was a long silence and I shook my head. She could have at least said no. But that was a silent yes.

I felt like punching myself for expecting to hear the opposite of what I knew she was going to say.

“So, why are you still up at this hour?” she asked, changing the topic.

“I still had work to do.”

“Right, that’s the reason you left me the way you did.”

I chuckled. “I’ll definitely make it up to you.”

I didn’t want to put a day on it, because I didn’t know when I’d figure out what was going on with me when it came to her.

“I also called about the dress.”

“You know, I’ve been thinking about that and Ella and Zoey even gave me a few suggestions.”

I chuckled. “I’m taking you shopping on Wednesday and not just for the dress. It’ll further show off how much I get to spoil my girl…” I trailed off as I wondered if I should say my next words, but said them anyway. “Because that’s what couples do.”

I was taking Harper shopping in an hour and I could’ve used that time to go home, freshen up and get a change of clothes, but no.

Grayson was back in San Francisco and was the last speaker at a business conference. It was the perfect place to speak to him. I had no plans of inviting him for some fucking lunch so we could talk during that time.

I walked in while he was in the middle of his speech and heads turned as I began to make my way to the front, where I had a seat reserved.

The cameras flashed the closer I got to the front and I had to smile as I knew that I’d be all over the news.

After getting to the front row, I turned left, took the first seat and looked up at him on that stage.
