Kicked Out I Unlocked My Ultimate Boss Mode novel Chapter 15

**TITLE: Broken Doesn’t Mean End**
**By M. Kaushik**
**Chapter 15: Wendy’s Jealousy**

A young woman, perhaps in her early twenties, approached with an air of enthusiasm that was impossible to ignore. Her face, adorned with delicate makeup, radiated a warm and inviting smile that seemed to brighten the entire room. She reached out, her hand outstretched as if to grasp Helen’s in a welcoming gesture. “Lil’ sis, welcome home! I’ve been waiting for you for what feels like an eternity! From this moment on, I won’t be the youngest in the family anymore!”

Wendy Walcott’s smile was charming, yet there was an underlying elegance that belied the turmoil brewing within her.

However, the jealousy and resentment she desperately tried to conceal flickered in her eyes, and Helen caught it instantly.

With a subtle movement, Helen evaded the hand reaching for hers. Her calm gaze swept over Wendy, taking in the girl’s eager expression, before she offered a small, noncommittal nod, choosing silence over engagement.

Wendy’s hand hovered awkwardly in the air, frozen and uncertain.

The smile that had once been bright now faltered, and for a fleeting moment, shame and irritation flickered across her features like a shadow passing over the sun.

Rebecca, ever observant, immediately sensed the tension that hung thick in the air. She hastily wiped away her tears, a nervous energy radiating from her as she began to explain. “Helen, this is Wendy, our adoptive daughter. When we couldn’t find you, it felt like our world was crumbling…”

She hesitated, her voice softening as she continued, “A psychic once told me that if we adopted a girl around your age, it might help us find you sooner. So we…”

Rebecca’s eyes darted anxiously toward Helen, searching for any sign of discomfort. “If you feel uneasy with her here, I will have her move out immediately.”

In that moment, nothing mattered more to Rebecca than her precious daughter.

Wendy’s complexion drained of color as she clenched her hands tightly at her sides, her heart racing. Just because I’m not their biological daughter, does that mean they can treat me like I’m worthless?

Helen glanced at her parents, their faces a stark contrast to the cold, distant Morgans she had known. The bond they shared after twenty years of life together was palpable, woven into the very fabric of their existence.

She didn’t want to complicate things for them right after her return. Besides, whatever schemes Wendy concocted would not affect her.

With a gentle shake of her head, she replied, “I don’t mind.”

Wendy’s expression instantly transformed, gratitude flooding her features as her eyes glistened with unshed tears. Her voice trembled with emotion as she said, “Thank you. From now on, I promise to take good care of you, Helen. Let’s make this work, okay?”

Helen’s heart remained unmoved, her interest in playing along with Wendy’s façade nonexistent. She simply offered a cool, indifferent, “Mm.”

“All right, what are we doing standing around the doorway?” Alexander chimed in, his voice warm yet still carrying the weight of lingering emotion. “I bet Helen must be hungry.”

As he reached out to take the duffle bag from her hand, he paused, surprised by its lightness.
