**Chapter 39: The Garcia Car**

“That’s right, Helen. You go ahead and focus on your work. Don’t let anything distract you,” Rebecca said, her voice laced with genuine concern. “Work is important, but remember to take care of yourself too.”

Alexander chimed in, his tone reassuring, “If you need anything at all, just let the staff know. They’re here to help.”

Helen nodded appreciatively at both of them, her heart swelling with gratitude, but her gaze shifted to Hector, and a hint of apology flickered in her eyes.

“Go ahead,” Hector said softly, giving her shoulder a reassuring pat that felt both natural and warm. “I understand, and I’ll be right here waiting for you.”

A small smile broke across Helen’s lips as she accepted the gift box he had prepared with such thoughtfulness. With a quick nod, she turned and hurried up the staircase, her steps light and eager as she made her way to her room.

Meanwhile, Wendy sat slightly apart, her fingers gripping the research papers tightly as she watched Helen’s retreating figure with a gaze that was anything but friendly.

She bit down on her lower lip, her thoughts racing. What could possibly be so urgent that a high school dropout like her felt it was more important than meeting the esteemed Walcotts?

Helen was clearly putting on a show, treating Hector’s carefully chosen gift with a casualness that felt almost disrespectful. Wasn’t she just trying to cultivate this independent image to elicit sympathy from the family?

So calculating, so manipulative!

Wendy’s fingers curled into a fist as she turned her attention to Hector. Quickly, she smoothed her expression, sidling up to him as he settled into his chair.

“Hector,” she said, her voice dripping with faux concern and just the right touch of flirtation, “don’t take it too personally. Helen just got back, so maybe she’s still figuring out the family dynamics and social etiquette. Things will improve once she’s finished with her work.”

Her words, although seemingly supportive, carried an undertone that belittled Helen’s understanding of proper manners, insinuating that she was blatantly disregarding Hector’s status.

Behind Hector’s glasses, his warm, dark eyes flickered with a mix of emotions. When he turned to Wendy, the warmth in his gaze had noticeably cooled.

Yet, his gentle smile remained, a testament to his character. “It’s perfectly fine. Rules can be rigid, but people? People are flexible. Helen’s work is important, and as a family, we should be supportive and understanding of her needs.”

His tone was as consistently warm and calm as ever, but each word clearly radiated his unwavering support for Helen, drawing a sharp contrast to Wendy’s intentions.

Wendy’s smile faltered for the briefest moment, her fingers involuntarily tightening as a wave of frustration washed over her. Was it possible that even Hector was enchanted by Helen?

What kind of spell did that girl cast on everyone?

Fury bubbled beneath the surface, but Wendy was acutely aware of the Walcotts’ perceptiveness. Last time, she had already displeased Felix, and the thought of further provoking the family sent a shiver down her spine.

Just then, George rushed over, his expression urgent as he addressed Felix. “Mr. Walcott, I believe I just spotted a Garcia family car parked at the entrance of the main house.”
