**Chapter 7: I’m the Only One**
Helen was mercilessly forcing Amanda’s head down, positioning her in a way that was not only demeaning but utterly humiliating.
The rough surface of the wall scraped against Amanda’s cheek, leaving a painful mark that mirrored the twisted expression of her face, contorted by the pressure Helen was exerting.
Leaning in close, Helen whispered into Amanda’s ear, her voice deceptively soft but laced with a chilling menace that sent shivers down Amanda’s spine. “One more word, and I’ll make sure you never hold a scalpel again in your life.”
With a sharp tug, Helen yanked Amanda’s hair, her fingers digging in with a fierce grip. “Got it?” she asked, a smirk dancing on her lips, relishing the power she wielded.
A wave of terror washed over Amanda, overwhelming her senses. She whimpered softly, the pain coursing through her as her face twisted between fear and simmering rage. Beneath her breath, she muttered a string of incoherent curses, her mind racing with indignation and helplessness.
Nearby, the other doctors stood frozen, their expressions a mix of disbelief and shock. They had never anticipated that this young, beautiful woman would resort to such violence against one of their own—especially not within the sterile confines of a hospital!
Just as they began to regain their composure and made a move to intervene, a voice sliced through the thick tension in the air.
“Helen, stop!”
The commanding tone was unmistakable.
A tall figure emerged, his refined features framed by a crisp white lab coat. He strode toward the scene with purpose, a pair of gold-rimmed glasses resting precariously on the bridge of his nose. But it was the fire in his eyes that truly caught everyone’s attention, burning with an intensity that could melt steel.
Maxwell Morgan, the youngest genius surgeon at Veridia Hospital and the second son of the illustrious Morgan family, had arrived.
“Helen, are you out of your mind? This is a hospital, not a playground for your childish tantrums!” His voice was ice-cold, and as his gaze fell upon Amanda, pinned helplessly against the wall and sobbing in humiliation, his expression darkened further.
He frowned deeply, his heart racing as he reached out to pull Amanda away from Helen’s grasp.
Helen slowly lifted her gaze, casting a sidelong glance at him.
That look—utterly devoid of warmth or emotion—sent a chill down Maxwell’s spine.
His hand froze in mid-air, shock coursing through him. The girl standing before him was a far cry from the one he remembered. Gone was the cautious, eager-to-please Amanda; now, her eyes reflected a coldness that felt foreign.
Is this truly the same Helen who once called out to me so softly, her voice like a gentle breeze?
Bang!
Another dull thud echoed ominously in the room.
Ignoring Maxwell entirely, Helen seized Amanda’s hair once more, slamming her head brutally against the wall before finally releasing her.
Amanda crumpled to the ground like a rag doll, her body curling up in agony as she whimpered, “Dr. Morgan… Dr. Morgan….”
Maxwell’s expression darkened further, a storm brewing within him.
