Kneeling for a Second Chance (Sebastian and Valeria) novel Chapter 102

Sebastian asked, "Where does your great-grandmother live?"

But judging by the look on Selena's face, Sebastian knew that Selena was probably too young to remember such details. It was normally enough for her to remember her parents' phone numbers and home address.

Still, in that moment, a thought formed in his head, and it started to quickly bloom.

Sebastian crouched down to look at the adorable girl in front of him. "Do you remember my phone number?"

Selena shook her head.

Sebastian then recited a string of digits.

"Can you memorize it?" He licked his lips, feeling like his mind was incredibly clear at that moment. In fact, it was frighteningly so.

Sebastian said, "If anything happens in the future, you can call me."

He would make sure to handle anything Selena's parents couldn't.

"Yes, I've memorized it," Selena said as she nodded at him, repeating it once more for him to hear.

Sebastian let out a satisfied smile. "Call me after you're done with school on Friday. I'll celebrate your birthday with you."

Valeria had no idea about the promise Sebastian had just made to Selena. She was in Lucy's house at that moment.

Lucy was actually watching a show on TV. She had probably accidentally brushed her phone and made a call.

Valeria let out a sigh of relief when she saw that Lucy was fine.

While Lucy called Shane back, Valeria noticed that she had eaten a small cake that evening. Valeria couldn't help but frown slightly.

On the table sat a plate of peanuts, a pair of chicken wings, and an open bottle of beer. Half the small cake was gone.

Lucy immediately looked a little guilty as she pushed Valeria outside.

Valeria said, "Mrs. Clark, you have high blood sugar and blood pressure. You need to watch your diet."

Lucy only stuck to dietary restrictions when she was in the hospital. She couldn't stop herself from indulging when she was at home.

Valeria turned back, grabbing Lucy's arm with one hand and clutching the door with the other. "Last time you were hospitalized, both your blood sugar and blood pressure went up a lot. It took effort to bring them under control. Shane even called me just now because he was worried you fainted at home."

That was the decision she should have made an hour ago, but Valeria felt that it wasn't too late.

Sebastian heard the crisp yet heavy click of the lock from the inside. He stared at the tightly closed door for a few minutes, then slowly went downstairs.

After he left the complex, he hailed a car.

The moonlight seemed to stretch his shadow long across the ground as he licked the cut at the corner of his lips.

Lying in bed, Valeria steadied her emotions from the night.

Just as she was about to turn off the lights and rest, she got a notification on her phone.

She had received a message on WhatsApp. When she opened it, she saw that it was a casual selfie from Sebastian along with the message, "How am I supposed to face people tomorrow after you bit me like this?"

Valeria curled her hand up in anger.

He sure knew how to twist things around. Did he really not know why she had bitten him?
