Sebastian had just arrived at the inpatient wing when he overheard someone saying there was a person on the rooftop, about to jump.

Such cases weren’t uncommon in the hospital.

As he passed by the nurses’ station, he overheard someone saying, “A patient from the thoracic surgery inpatient department just learned there isn’t a cure for her cancer.

“The patient had finally managed to get scheduled for surgery with Dr. Gardner, but now she doesn’t even want to go through with the surgery…”

Sebastian immediately paused in his steps before he quickly turned around and ran out, almost running into Jamie in the process.

At the rooftop, Margaret was standing at the edge of the roof, while a few onlookers gathered

around.

Sebastian squeezed his way through the crowd and took a few steps forward. He lightened his footsteps as he looked at Margaret’s frail figure.

Margaret just happened to turn around at that moment. Upon seeing him, she found him familiar. “Shane…”

When Margaret got a clear look at Sebastian’s face, she knew he wasn’t Shane. However, she didn’t know how to address him. Hence, she commented, “You’re a doctor here.”

“I am.” Sebastian nodded as he slowly walked toward Margaret, his expression turning grave as his eyes swept over their surroundings.

Although there was a glass barrier around the rooftop, Sebastian knew that if Margaret really wanted to jump, the distance would make it impossible for him to stop her.

“Your condition isn’t rare in our field, and Dr. Gardner is one of the most sought-after specialists in this field. With the advancements in medical practice today, you have a high

chance of surviving the surgery,” Sebastian explained,

Margaret shook her head. She did not want to seek treatment for her cancer, the only reason why she hadn’t jumped was because of her attachment to Valeria and Selena.

“Granny…” Sebastian called out softly.

Upon hearing what Sebastian had called her, Margaret froze as she looked at him in shock.

Sebastian had slowly closed the distance and was now ten feet away from her. He extended his hand and said, “Let’s go finish your surgery. I’m sure it’ll be very successful.

“Eight years ago, my mom underwent a thoracotomy. Back then, the doctors told us that she was in dire condition and that the surgery only had a 30% chance of being successful.

“My mom is extremely healthy now, and she often likes to joke around with me. Valeria will be worried if she’s not able to find you.”

Margaret answered, “I don’t want to be a burden to Valeria. Back when Valeria’s grandpa had fallen sick, my beautiful girl had taken a bunch of hormone medication just to be a donor match for her grandpa.

“She had taken so much medication that she stopped talking and smiling. Now that her life has finally taken a turn for the better, she now has to worry about my condition.”

Sebastian stepped forward and grabbed Margaret’s arm, pulling her back. “Valeria’s life would be filled with guilt and regret if you jump. She doesn’t care about losing money, she’s worried about losing you.”

Margaret’s dazed expression slowly cleared.

“Granny…” Valeria squeezed through the crowd of onlookers and rushed toward them. She was trembling from fear as she hugged Margaret.

Then, Valeria said, “Granny, please don’t leave me.

Tears welled up in Margaret’s eyes. “Riri.”

Sebastian looked at Valeria who was crying so hard she couldn’t speak. As she choked on her sobs, he pursed his lips and gently placed his hand on her slender shoulder.

Soon, the security guards came over to dismiss the crowd of onlookers. The people downstairs were also keeping the safety air cushion ready.

Valeria brought Margaret back to the thoracic surgery inpatient department. Joseph and his

team soon arrived and asked about the situation.

When they asked if Margaret was still willing to continue with surgery, Valeria held Margaret’s hand. Margaret nodded and answered, “I’ll do it.”

Sebastian stood outside the hospital ward. When Joseph walked out and glanced at Sebastian, Joseph asked, “Do you know them?”
