The voice on the other end was full of frustration. “…No. I haven’t been able to reach him since last night.”
“What?!” Honora hissed. “What kind of useless idiot did you hire?”
“He told me the guy was a fugitive who’d assaulted over a dozen girls. I figured he was a professional. I never thought he’d be so incompetent he couldn’t handle one woman.”
“Useless! I was almost thrown out of the Judson house today because of that wild bitch, Larissa! If I get kicked out, you can forget about ever getting another cent from me!”
“No, no, wait! I’ll figure something else out!” the voice pleaded.
Honora’s voice was cold. “She’s already at the Judson estate. If you try something now, do you want the whole family to suspect me?”
“Then what do we do?”
Honora stared at the east villa across the way. “It seems your man ran into trouble. You need to lie low for a while. Make sure no one traces this back to you or me.”
“I understand.”
Honora hung up and threw her phone onto the bed.
Useless! He couldn’t even handle one simple task.
Her plan had been to have someone assault Larissa and record it. The video would have been perfect blackmail, and it would have ensured Haskell would never develop feelings for her. But the plan had failed.
Honora took a deep breath to calm her fury, then picked up her phone and opened her chat history with Haskell. The last message she’d sent was yesterday morning at eight.
