The man standing before her looked to be in his mid-twenties. He shared a slight resemblance to Leopold, but where Leopold was arrogant, this man was cold and ruthless. If she wasn’t mistaken, this was Finley, the eldest son of Paxton.
Without looking up again, Larissa continued to spread her herbs. “I am Larissa, the daughter of the Judson family, yes,” she said flatly. “But if you’re here to see me, you should already know I’m no longer your sister. What do you want?”
Seeing her preoccupied with the weeds on the ground, completely ignoring him, Finley realized Leopold hadn’t been exaggerating. This sister of his was astonishingly arrogant, showing him no respect at all.
“You know who I am, and this is how you act?” Finley said, his voice tight with suppressed anger.
“Tsk. With an attitude like your family’s, I’d treat your parents the same way. What kind of reception were you expecting?” Larissa finally looked up, her eyes dripping with scorn as she let out a derisive laugh.
Finley’s entire demeanor turned frosty. He understood now. This so-called sister of his didn’t deserve even a shred of civility.
“I was away on business, but Leopold told me that as soon as you arrived, you demanded Honora leave the family. And yesterday, you slapped her. Is that true?”
Finley strode forward and deliberately stepped on a pile of her freshly laid herbs, grinding his shoe into them until they were nothing but dust.
Larissa’s hands stilled. Her eyes flashed with a dangerous light as she finally gave the man a proper look. He was staring down at her as if she were an ant he could crush at any moment.
Slowly, she rose to her feet, meeting his gaze without a hint of fear. She ignored his question. “I’m going to give you a chance,” she said, her voice devoid of emotion.
Her unwavering stare seemed to unnerve him slightly.
