Haskell just smiled at her playful expression. “Patience. We’ll get there, one step at a time.”
As she worked, Larissa brought up her conversation with her father from that morning. “By the way, my dad asked me what I would do if you really couldn’t have children.”
Haskell’s smile didn’t falter. “And what did you say?”
“I told him that if I wanted children, I would leave you without a second thought.”
She remembered the look of surprise on her father’s face, but it was the truth. If having a child was her priority, she would choose that path. If being with Haskell was more important, she would choose him. Her happiness came first.
Haskell’s expression remained serene. “I would expect nothing less. You never compromise your own happiness.”
“You’re not disappointed?” she asked, finishing the last needle and sitting back to look at him.
“Why would I be disappointed?” he replied. “If I were the one who couldn’t give you a child you desperately wanted, you would be the one with the right to be disappointed, not me.”
“And what reason would I have to hold you back? Love? If I truly loved you, I would want you to be happy, even if it meant letting you go to find the life you desire.” He spoke with complete sincerity. “Of course, I would still be heartbroken that we couldn’t be together and have a family of our own.”
Larissa beamed. “This is why you’re my favorite, Haskell.”
Just then, a knock came at the door. It was Crispin.
“Ms. Judson, the food from Paddy’s Home has arrived.”
“Great, bring it in,” Larissa called out.
Crispin entered, set the meal on the table, and discreetly left.
Haskell, however, didn’t touch his food.
“Aren’t you going to eat?” Larissa asked.
“I’ll wait until after the massage,” he said. He was afraid the psychological discomfort caused by the snakes might make him lose his appetite.
Larissa chuckled. “Alright.”
After the treatment, Haskell rested for a while. At two o’clock, Larissa personally escorted him out of the building. As they passed through the main office area, she noticed several female employees, including Ursa, sitting at their desks, their eyes fixed on them.
The official lunch break didn’t end for another half hour.
Larissa raised an eyebrow. “None of you went home for lunch today?”
