"I don't know where you get your confidence," Finley scoffed. "You're nothing compared to Honora."
His disdain was a perfect echo of Leopold's.
A smirk played on Larissa's lips. "I'm always confident about things I can control. Just as I'm confident you wouldn't dare tell anyone that I'm the one who severed the tendon in your right leg."
Finley's face turned pale, and his hands clenched into tight fists.
He didn't dare. He had already experienced the poison she'd given him and knew the agony it could inflict.
…
Back at the Judson family estate, Larissa parked the car and turned to Finley in the back seat. "Out you go. Don't tell me you can't even walk."
Humiliation burned in Finley’s eyes, but he remained silent, slowly and painfully maneuvering himself out of the car.
Larissa watched him, a mocking smile on her face. "Still feeling bitter? You shouldn't have come looking for trouble yesterday. Then you wouldn't have ended up like this. Come to think of it, Leopold was the one who sent you, wasn't he? He didn't have the guts to face me himself, so he pushed you forward as his scapegoat. You should really blame him."
Finley’s expression darkened. He glared at her, his voice a low growl. "Don't try to drive a wedge between us."
Larissa burst out laughing, the sound dripping with scorn. "Drive a wedge between you? What's in it for me? Did you really think I would waste my time competing with Honora for your approval? How utterly ridiculous."
Just then, a sleek Porsche pulled into the garage. Honora and Leopold got out of the car.
