Left Them Loved Myself (Stella Spencer) novel Chapter 101

That officer has been dealt with, Jeremy interjected. “The police did an internal review. The official word is he was just carrying out Ernest’s commands.”

That was exactly why the Lloyd Group ended up on the bad side of the higher–ups.

“He got off easy,” Harvey said coldly. Then he turned to Jeremy and asked, “So, what did the doctor say? Does Stella need to stay under observation for a few days?”

Yeah, she needs to stay in the hospital for a couple days,” Jeremy nodded. He’d been handling everything ever since Stella fainted and got brought in, so he knew all the details.

“I was planning to come pick you up, but since you need to stay in the hospital, I’ll just come by and get you in a few days. Harvey said, patting her shoulder.

Just take it easy for now, okay? Relax, Stella. With Jeremy and me around, nothing’s gonna go wrong,” Harvey added.

“Alright, Stella nodded with a gentle smile.

They didn’t stick around. Harvey had a ton of Spencer family business waiting for him. He headed out first.

Jeremy didn’t stick around either. “Stella, there’s plenty waiting for me back at Lumière Group. I’ll arrange for a nurse to look after you for now, and I’ll check in after work.”

“You don’t have to go through all that,” Stella said, shaking her head. “I’ll just call Erica to come help me.”

“Yeah, that’s fine too,” Jeremy said with a small nod. He reminded her about the doctor’s instructions and headed out.

Stella called Erica, who picked up instantly, her voice half teasing, half complaining. “Stella, seriously, do you even consider me your best friend anymore?”

After a long round of soothing, Stella finally managed to get Erica off her case. Then Erica asked, “So, Stella, where are you anyway? I went to the police station and the folks there said you were already gone.”

“Well, I’m at…” Stella hesitated.

Half an hour later, Erica came rushing in, lugging a bunch of bags and packages. Jeremy had arranged for a private room, so there was no need to worry about bothering anyone.

“Stella, guess what I brought you?” Erica said, her voice full of mystery.

“What is it?” Stella played along, putting on her best surprised face.

“Ta–da!” Erica exclaimed. But as Erica was about to show it off, she noticed Stella wasn’t looking at her. Instead, Stella’s gaze was somewhere else.

Just as she was about to complain, Erica realized what she was seeing–Stella’s eyes were half open, medicine

smeared around them, and her eyes were bloodshot and vacant, giving her a chilling look.

“Wait, what’s wrong with your eyes?” Erica dropped everything and rushed over, her voice breaking as she choked back tears. “How did it end up like this?”

Stella chuckled softly. “Don’t worry. It’s nothing serious. I just need to rest for a couple of days, and I’ll be fine.”

“You sure?” Erica asked, still unsure.

“Of course,” Stella said, flashing her a reassuring smile.

Erica still looked uneasy. After checking with the doctor, she sighed in relief. “Thank goodness. As long as you’re not going blind, that’s all that matters.”

As Stella’s best friend, Erica knew how much Stella loved jewelry design. If she went blind, Erica couldn’t even imagine the blow that would be to her.

“Let’s eat,” Stella said, sitting up. “I can already smell something delicious.”

“You’ve always had a nose for good stuff,” Erica joked, grinning. “I picked up some nutritious food just for you -so eat plenty, okay?”

Stella reached for the food, but Erica quickly took it away, teasing, “Hold on–your vision’s still blurry. I’ll feed you instead.”

“Alright,” Stella agreed.

Sylvia just got moved here since the medical care’s way better, Honestly, it was a huge step up from that random hospital Ernest dragged her to yesterday when everything went down.

Erica exhaled sharply, trying to shake off her anger.

After a long pause, the door to Stella’s room opened. Stella, having heard the noise, turned toward Erica with curiosity. “Erica, did something happen on your way back? You were gone a while. Everything okay?”

Erica bit her lip, then decided not to tell Stella about the scene she just witnessed. She didn’t want to upset her. “No, it’s nothing. I just spent a little extra time getting some stuff.”

“I’m not even gonna be here that long, you really don’t need to go all out,” Stella said, still feeling a bit embarrassed.

“Absolutely not,” Erica shot back without missing a beat. Whatever Sylvia got, Stella should have too–and if Sylvia didn’t have it, then Stella deserved something even better.

“Alright, Stella sighed. She knew there was no winning against Erica, so she just let her do her thing.

“Lie back and let me freshen you up,” Erica said, coming over with a warm, damp towel.

Stella felt a bit embarrassed. “Erica, it’s not like I’m paralyzed–I just can’t see. Really, I can take care of myself.

“No way, Erica insisted, not giving in. Stella had no choice but to let her help.

After she finished cleaning up, Erica sat next to her, cutting some fruit. Stella asked, “Erica, has what happened yesterday gotten out?”

Erica froze for a second, “Why do you ask?” she said lightly, trying to avoid the question.

Stella was direct. “I just want to know if there are any bad rumors about me.”

Stella always saw straight through the situation. After what happened with the kidnapper yesterday—the way

he treated her so differently–it was pretty much guaranteed people would start to gossip.
