Stella forced her eyes open, and the moment she saw who it was, she jolted awake, sitting up. “What are you doing here? I was planning to wait until tomorrow to explain everything, but since you’re here, I…”
“I’m not interested in anything you have to say,” Ernest cut her off, his gaze icy. “Just confess.”
“Confess? To what?” Stella asked, completely confused. “What exactly am I supposed to confess to?”
“To what happened today–your involvement with Sylvia and Noreen,” Ernest said, his voice growing colder. “For Grandpa’s sake, if you confess, I’ll let everyone else off the hook.”
“What if I don’t?” Stella shot back, her voice steady but firm.
Ernest sneered, his presence filling the room with a chilling aura. “You can try. But the real question is, will the Spencer family make it through until you’re out?”
“What have you done to them?” Stella shot up, grabbing the cold bars of the cell, her hands shaking with frustration. “Ernest, I don’t care if you believe me or not, but I didn’t do what you’re accusing me of.”
Ernest merely gave a cold, indifferent hum, not bothering to respond.
“Then go investigate,” Stella snapped. “You’re the CEO of the Lloyd Group, right? With all your power, you can’t figure out the truth? I didn’t do it, and I never will.”
“I’ve already looked into it,” Ernest replied flatly, as if delivering a final verdict. “All the evidence points straight to you.”
“What?” Stella gasped, her eyes wide with shock. “That’s impossible!”
“By the way,” Ernest continued, “the robber who was brought in today confessed. He said a woman was the one who contacted him.”
“Just because it was a woman, you think it has to be me?” Stella protested, shocked. “You seriously believe I’d do something like that?”
They’d been married for seven years. Even if Ernest didn’t care for her, by now, he should at least understand her character.
“Who else could it be?” Ernest replied, like it was just common sense. “All the evidence points to you. If it’s not you, then who?”
“I’ll say it one more time,” Stella said, her voice growing tired. “I will never confess to something I didn’t do.”
Ernest nodded, then stood up and turned to leave. His cold words hung in the air. “Since you refuse to admit your guilt, others will have to bear the consequences.”
“Ernest!” Stella screamed, furious and desperate. “If you harm the Spencer family, I swear I won’t let you get away with it!”

But before she could finish, the door slammed shut, muffling her furious cries. Ernest didn’t even pause–he left without a backward glance, completely unmoved by her final, desperate outburst.
“I need to make a call!” Stella shouted at the officer on duty.
She knew–given Ernest’s ruthless nature, especially with how much he cared about Sylvia, especially after she took a bullet for him today–that he wouldn’t spare Stella. If he was out for revenge, he wouldn’t hesitate
to take it.
She had to warn her family, fast.
But no matter how much she shouted, the officer didn’t respond. It was like she didn’t exist.
Stella’s mind raced–she realized Ernest was the only one who’d come to see her. He must have given the officers instructions. Her eyes darkened, and a cold sense of helplessness spread through her.
She finally understood. Ernest’s plan wasn’t just to ruin her–it was to push her into complete isolation, to break her spirit and trap her in despair.
“He’s a monster,” Stella breathed, the truth of it hitting her like a physical blow.

“Wait, am I in a hospital?” Her vision swam as she tried to sit up, but someone supported her arm–Jeremy, sounding resigned, right next to her.
“Stella, I seriously don’t even know what to say to you right now,” Jeremy sighed, clearly worried. “The doctor says your eyes are pretty inflamed. You might be dealing with blurry vision for the next few days.
“Lucky it wasn’t worse. You made it here just in time–if you’d waited any longer, you could’ve ended up with a nasty eye infection, maybe even risking losing your sight.”
Stella didn’t care about that right now. “How long have I been out? What happened to my family?”
“They’re fine,” Jeremy assured her. “The situation got really out of control, and it was affecting the whole city. But the authorities stepped in, and I pulled some strings. For now, we’re safe.”
“That’s good to hear,” Stella said, nodding in relief.
“Stella!” An anxious shout suddenly rang out, immediately grabbing her attention.
“Harvey, I’m here,” Stella responded.
Before Stella could even finish her sentence, Harvey gave her a sharp knock on the head–so hard her face scrunched up in pain. Harvey definitely didn’t hold back.
“Harvey, come on, that really hurt,” Stella complained, rubbing her sore head.
Harvey grabbed her face, and as he looked at her, his expression softened when he saw her bloodshot eyes. “Look at you. It’s only been a little while, and you’ve gotten yourself into such a mess.
“And honestly, haven’t I always said–if anything goes wrong, call me right away?” Harvey scolded, a mix of frustration and concern in his voice.
Stella hunched her shoulders, a bit sheepish. “It all happened way too fast. I was about to call you, but they took my phone and locked me up.”
Then, she added in frustration, “And when I tried to call yesterday, the officer didn’t even listen to me.”
