I’m fine,” Stella said, shaking her head with a calm smile. Since she hadn’t done anything wrong, she wasn’t worried. Still, a feeling of unease lingered inside her. “Jeremy, how’s the Spencer family holding up?”
She could still remember the look Ernest gave her earlier–a mix of suspicion and threat. Stella wasn’t afraid for herself; the real fear was that he would take it out on the Spencer family.
“Everything’s fine,” Jeremy replied casually, sensing her concern. Stella nodded, deciding not to dwell on it. She figured once she got out tomorrow, she’d be able to explain everything to Ernest.
But she didn’t notice the brief, helpless look that flashed across Jeremy’s eyes.
The Lloyd family still held immense power in Seabrook, and even with the Spencer family teaming up with him, Jeremy could barely keep up.
If it hadn’t been for a sudden influx of foreign funds, the Spencer family might have already been wiped out.
With Stella stuck in detention and dragged into this murder mess, Jeremy didn’t want to add more to her plate. He didn’t want to burden her with the truth.
“If you need anything, just tell me,” Jeremy offered, his voice full of concern.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be out tomorrow,” Stella reassured him, brushing it off. Then, remembering something, she asked, “By the way, how’s Sylvia doing?”
“The bullet was in a really dangerous spot–if it had been a fraction off, she wouldn’t have made it. By the time I got there, they had stabilized her and moved her into the ICU. She’s resting now,” Jeremy explained, his tone a little heavy.
Stella nodded, not wanting to dwell on it. “You should go get some rest too, Jeremy. I’m fine here.”
“Okay, I’ll head out for now. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow,” Jeremy promised.
“Yeah, Stella replied.
Meanwhile, the news about the robbery at the exhibition had spread like wildfire. By the evening, the entire city was talking about it.
The robber shot someone, and since many of the people present were high–profile figures, there was no way to keep it under wraps.
The rumors were flying, filling every corner of the city.
At a café, Noreen stirred her coffee irritably, completely unaware that Stella, the person she had been itching to teach a lesson, was currently sitting in a detention cell.
“Where’s Stella?” Noreen snapped at Jessica, clearly annoyed. “I’ve been waiting for half an hour already.

When’s she showing up?”

Jessica, trying to hide her excitement, responded softly, “She should be here soon.” All she had to do was wait for Patrick’s signal, and she could finally make her move.
Moments later, Jessica’s phone chimed with a new message. Trying to hide her excitement, she glanced at the screen and feigned shock. “Noreen, bad news. Stella’s in trouble on her way here. We might need to head out there.”
“Seriously?” Noreen’s eyes sparkled with anticipation. “What are we waiting for? Let’s go.”
She hadn’t even lifted a finger yet, and it seemed like Stella’s bad luck was already working in her favor. Noreen couldn’t suppress a smug smile.
The two of them rushed out of the café, not knowing two trained men were on their tail.
One of the men, named Arturo, suddenly stopped, causing his partner, Vernon, to look at him in confusion. “What? The boss already planted the tracker on her phone, but if we don’t hurry up, we might miss our chance to make things worse.”

But when Patrick stepped out, all those wild fantasies about Noreen running into his arms or bursting into grateful tears vanished into thin air–none of it happened. All he got was a whole lot of awkward silence.
Instead, Noreen was walking ahead, wearing Patrick’s jacket, and he had a bright red slap mark on his cheek- clearly the result of her anger,
When they came out, Jessica returned with two bottles of water, pretending to be concerned when she saw Noreen’s disheveled appearance. “Noreen, are you okay?” she asked, forcing a worried tone.
Without warning, Noreen grabbed Jessica by the hair and slapped her hard. “You little bitch, where the hell did you disappear to? Tell me–were those guys your doing? Did you try to set me up?”
Growing up in the Lloyd family, Noreen was no fool. She could sense that something was obviously wrong today.
“Noreen, how could I ever hurt you?” Jessica choked out, her voice trembling. “I’d do anything to protect you. There’s no way I’d ever set you up.”
“Yeah, Ms. Lloyd, if my sister was out to get you, why would I even show up to help?” Patrick tossed in, feigning innocence.
It didn’t make sense for them to set up something like this. It didn’t add up. Which meant the real mastermind was probably Stella–the one who had been supposed to show up but never did.
Just thinking about that design draft made Noreen’s anger boil over.
Noreen pulled out her phone and called Ernest. The line rang a few times, and just when she thought he wouldn’t pick up, his voice came through–quiet and tired. “What is it?”
Noreen dropped the bomb. “Ernest, that bitch Stella actually got together a bunch of filthy lowlifes and thugs to try and mess with me.”
“I understand,” Ernest said. It sounded calm, but Noreen could feel something icy in his voice.
Meanwhile, at around two in the morning, Stella was still groggy when someone called out to her. “Stella, wake up. Someone’s here to see you.”
