“Sir?” Stella called out, sounding a bit uneasy.

“Yeah,” came a low, familiar voice, but Stella was so focused on needing the restroom that she didn’t think too much about it.
Hearing him respond, Stella brightened. “Could you please help me get to the restroom?”
He didn’t answer, but Stella felt him gently tugging on her sleeve, guiding her forward. Before long, they arrived at the restroom, and he gave her a gentle push on the shoulder, guiding her to go in.
Stella understood and walked toward the door, grateful. “Thank you so much.”
She had grown used to his silence, so when he didn’t respond, it didn’t bother her.
After a while, when Stella stepped out of the restroom, she expected to find the man waiting for her. Instead, she was met by a nurse standing there.
“Hello, are you Ms. Spencer, the one with temporary vision loss?” the nurse asked.
“Yes, that’s me,” Stella replied.
“I’m here to take you back to your room. Just hold my hand and follow me,” the nurse said as she took Stella’s hand, leading her.
Curious, Stella asked, “How did you know I was in the restroom? And what about that man from before…”
“A gentleman called me here,” the nurse answered.
“Really?” Stella smiled. “He’s such a good guy.”
“Too bad you couldn’t see him. I’m telling you, he’s unbelievably handsome,” the nurse added with a grin.
“Then I’ll have to meet him next time and thank him properly,” Stella said.
As they chatted, they made their way back to the room, where Erica had already returned with food.
Seeing Stella, Erica rushed over and hugged her. “Stella, where did you go? I came back and couldn’t find you. I was freaking out!”
“Alright, alright,” Stella reassured her. “I just went to the restroom, that’s all. See? I’m fine.”
“The restroom?” Erica frowned in confusion. “Isn’t there one in our room? Why’d you go outside instead?”
“I couldn’t find it, and things got urgent, so I had to ask for help,” Stella explained, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Erica looked skeptical but then shook her head. “No way, it couldn’t have been him. He’s not that nice.”
“Who?” Stella asked.

In the room next door, Ernest casually said, “Just a friend. I ran into a friend and talked for a bit. That’s why I was delayed.
“I was just asking, don’t worry about it. If something like this happens again, you don’t have to rush back. I can take care of things myself,” Sylvia reassured him.
Ernest nodded without saying more, and quietly arranged the food he’d brought on the table in front of her.
“Let’s eat,” Erica set the food out and pulled Stella to the table,
But Stella wasn’t ready to drop it. “Erica, you still haven’t told me who it was. It sounds like you know who it was. If you know, you can’t keep it from me. I haven’t even had a chance to thank him properly.”
“I really don’t know,” Erica sighed. Honestly, Erica couldn’t help but suspect it was Ernest. Only he would act so strangely, just like Stella described.

“And you.” Evelyn said, lightly poking Stella’s forehead. “Don’t think you can pretend nothing happened. Harvey kept quiet, and so did you?”
“Yeah, why hide it from all of us?” Marvin added.
“Uncle Marvin, Aunt Evelyn, I know I messed up. Please don’t be mad at me,” Stella pleaded.
Evelyn saw right through her act. “You always say you know you’re wrong, but when do you ever actually change?”
“Evelyn’s right,” Marvin chimed in.
“I’ll change, I swear. Whatever you say, Aunt Evelyn, I’ll do it,” Stella promised eagerly. Given that she was in the hospital, Evelyn decided to let it slide this time. As for Harvey, he was in for double the scolding when he came home.
“You’d better mean it,” Evelyn said, tapping Stella’s forehead. Then she took over feeding Stella. “Erica, just eat. I’ll take care of her.”
“Okay,” Erica nodded, just settling into her seat when Evelyn spoke up again, “Go home right after the meal. I’ll stay here overnight and look after Stella.”
“Mrs. Spencer, I can’t let you stay,” Erica protested, worried. “I can handle staying up a few nights. Let me do it instead.”
“No, you’ve misunderstood,” Evelyn added gently. “Your dad heard we were coming to see Stella, so he had Marvin tell you to head home for a bit.”
“My dad? Why didn’t he just call me himself,” Erica began, but her voice trailed off as she looked at her phone
screen.
Her eyes widened at the dozens of missed calls. “Oh, right, I forgot I had it on silent,” Erica said with an embarrassed laugh.
“Go call your dad and let him know you’re okay. We’ll wait for you before we eat,” Evelyn said, smiling.
