Chapter 131
“Yeah, you’re right,” Stella said, nodding in agreement.

Stella thought to herself, ‘I’ve been wanting to ask him about this for ages, but stuff just kept piling up and I never got the chance. Enough’s enough–it’s time I get some answers.
“Alright, listen up,” Erica said, her tone extra serious.
Afraid Stella would get sucked in again, Erica nagged, “No matter what he says tomorrow, you have to stand firm. Absolutely no backing down. If he really tries to stall on the divorce…”
She paused, eyes narrowing mischievously. “Then we’ll slap him with a lawsuit, air out his dirty laundry, and toss in a fresh scandal or two. Let’s see if Lloyd Group’s stock can hold up against all my tricks.”
Stella couldn’t help but laugh. “Aren’t you worried he’ll hold a grudge against you?”
Erica scoffed. “Worried? Hell no. As long as I can drag you out of this dumpster fire, I don’t care if it’s the king of the world himself–I won’t hesitate to slap him across the face.”
“Erica…” Stella murmured, her voice thick with emotion.
She felt a wave of warmth spread through her chest. She wanted to say something, but her voice choked up, so all she could do was hug Erica tightly and nuzzle her face into the crook of her neck.
“Alright now,” Erica said, giggling as Stella’s hair tickled her. Treating her like a little kid, she coaxed, “I know you’re touched, but quit nuzzling me–your hair is tickling me to death.”
“Nothing can stop me,” Stella grumbled, burrowing her face even deeper into Erica.
In no time, Erica was shrinking her neck and giggling, her hand shooting straight for Stella’s ticklish spot at her waist.
“Erica, quit it!” Stella gasped out between peals of laughter.
“Admit you were wrong!” Erica joked, still merciless with her tickling.
“Okay, I was wrong!” Stella squealed, barely able to breathe.
“Still wanna keep nuzzling?” Erica teased, fingers still working.
“I surrender, no more nuzzling!” Stella laughed, tapping out in defeat.
Before long, the touching mood faded away, replaced by peals of laughter echoing through the night. Even the usually quiet Lloyd Manor felt lively and warm in the midst of their joy.
Early the next morning, Erica was up bright and early, pulling Stella with her to confront Ernest.

They’d barely had a chance to say hi before Ernest swept past them, like a whirlwind–gone in a flash.
They could faintly hear him talking into his phone.
“Ernest, I’m so scared…” Sylvia’s voice sounded soft and a little pitiful. “They said something’s wrong with my wound, I might need another surgery. Where are you? Can you come and stay with me? I…”
But as Ernest strode away, the rest of her words trailed off, fading with the distance.
His car peeled out so anxiously, it was pretty obvious what his destination was.
“Should we follow him?” Erica asked.
“Forget it,” Stella said, shaking her head. “Don’t worry, we’ll have our shot. He’s headed off to be with Sylvia for her surgery. If anything goes wrong, it’ll definitely be pinned on us.”
She figured, “This isn’t the first time we’ve dealt with something like this, so there’s no need for us to go out of our way just to catch the blame.’
“True,” Erica agreed, nodding. “Let’s just wait till that shameless woman is done with her drama, then we’ll go over. Maybe that trash couple will finally get together and stop causing trouble for everyone else.”
Stella didn’t say a word.
Noticing Stella was frowning at her phone, Erica asked, “What’s up? Did someone message you?”
“Yeah.” Stella nodded, passing her the phone. “See for yourself.”
Erica took a look and cracked up. “Well, would you look at that–he ditches his kid with you so he can rush off to save that homewrecker. Classic move. The guy’s got his priorities all figured out, huh?”
“Seriously, you’re still going to that PTA meeting for Irene?” Erica asked, sounding surprised.
“I am her mom, after all,” Stella replied calmly.
The connection between Irene and Stella might be worn thin, but being Irene’s mother wasn’t something Stella could just quit, no matter how tough things got.
At least until Irene was an adult, Stella knew she couldn’t totally turn her back on her.
“Fine.” Erica shrugged. “When it’s time for the PTA meeting, I’ll come along with you.”
“Thank you,” Stella said softly.
They didn’t hang around Lloyd Manor for breakfast. After saying goodbye to Sebastian, they headed out together.

Stella just shook her head and laughed, not bothering to stop her. Honestly, she was just as curious–Sylvia’s gunshot wound was supposed to be healing already, so how did things suddenly take a turn for the worse?
It wasn’t long before Erica poked her head in, her face practically glowing with excitement.
She couldn’t hold back her glee as she shut the door behind her. “Stella, you have no idea–Sylvia, that homewrecker, finally got what was coming to her!”
“What happened?” Stella looked quite confused.
Erica hurriedly said, “I asked around–get this, she totally did it to herself! She slipped and fell right down the stairs, and the very first thing to hit the floor was her bullet wound. Boom–out like a light! Seriously, if that’s not karma, I don’t know what is! Totally serves her right, doesn’t it?”
Stella frowned, her instincts telling her something wasn’t right. “Hold on a sec… How did Sylvia manage to

contact Ernest in the middle of all that chaos?”

Erica was sharp–she’d thought of that too and already sniffed out the details. She said, her eyes gleaming, “I asked one of the nurses who was there,”
“Turns out they were about to wheel Sylvia straight into surgery when she suddenly woke up, totally dramatic -started begging and claiming she was terrified she wouldn’t make it and couldn’t bear the thought of dying without seeing that jerk Ernest one last time.
“She made a whole scene and flat–out refused to go till he showed up. Talk about milking every ounce of
attention.”
Erica wondered, ‘Gotta admit, I kinda respected her–girl’s seriously fearless when it comes to pain.
“Wow, talk about obsessed,” Stella muttered, corners of her mouth twitching in disbelief.
“For real,” Erica snorted. “That loser’s totally trapped–no way he’s wriggling free from her grip this time.”
Stella didn’t say another word. Whether Sylvia was scheming or actually obsessed, it simply wasn’t her problem anymore.
All she wanted now was to get the divorce done and start living for herself–not wasting another second, or a shred of her heart, on people who weren’t worth it.
However, no matter how much she tried to stay out of other people’s drama, trouble always found its way to her doorstep.
Suddenly, the door was kicked open with a loud crash, and Stella and Erica nearly jumped out of their skins.
